First of all, Guanajuato City is a lovely place - a breather from anywhere to start with, but it is compact with lots of hustle and bustle, so taking a short trip (about 10 minutes by taxi) to this ex hacienda was a nice diversion. The place is an interesting combo of historical museum and garden. You can walk through... More

This is was an old hacienda that was bequeathed to the state. Now more frequently used for weddings, etc. The grounds are worn and need significant attention and TLC to bring them back to their glory days. Swimming pool is a good example.. empty and tiles wall tiles missing or faded. Not really a place visit unless attending a party.... More

Suggest taking a tour - we didn't and I spent half an hour after we left trying to work out the history behind the place. We were not offered a tour, however. We drove there using Google maps (free street parking). Entry 30 pesos. The house itself (museum) was filled with some original furniture and that was really awesome to... More

A nice respite from the town center. We spent less than hour walking around and did not try the pleasant out door cafe. Later in the season there may be more in bloom.

To escape Guanajuato´s bustling streets go 2.5 km west to this magnificent colonial home which is now a museum with splendid and stunning gardens. Built at the 17th century, this was the grand hacienda of Captain Gabriel de Barrera, whose family was descended from the first Conde de Rul of the famous la Valencia mine. Spend as a museum in... This is definitely a hidden gem. If it weren't for TripAdvisor, we would've never found this place. Very calm, tranquil environment. Is almost as if you've stepped back in time walking amongst the beautiful architecture. Beautiful scenery.

The 17 gardens you can wander through are absolutely magnificent and have their own story to tell. The hacienda's house, along with original furniture, is spectacular. English guides available or you can walk all over on your own. Small restaurant on site and taxis available at the hotel.

It was so peaceful walking around the theme gardens. We were there early in the morning so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. Since we were there on a Saturday there were people there setting up for a wedding later in the day. Although the gardens were my favorite part, I also enjoyed touring the house and found... More

We visited this location with a guide from Guanajuato and the setting is enchanting. Lovely and expansive gardens, and the rooms of the hacienda that were open for viewing were fascinating. Quite a look into the lives of the former aristocracy. Built in the late 1600’s it was home to Captain Gabriel de Barrera, owners of the local Valenciana silver... More
