This plaza is dominating the church at the end. Inside the church are two sparking gold altars at the sides at the front of the church. With a huge baroque front altar. Worth a look at. The plaza itself is very interesting as it has lots of old buildings from the Spanish times. A statue in the middle of a old lady and stalls at the side where you can get yourself a fake doctorate if you so wish.

The Plaza is one of my favorite spots in the city. As plazas go, it is fairly quiet and a great place to find a bench and relax after a visit to the Ministy of Education to see 120 Diego Rivera murals that he completed between 1923-1928. The public entrance to the Ministry is right on the plaza. At the far end of the plaza is the Church of Santo Domingo which has some interesting carvings on the facade of the church. More interesting, just next to the church, is the Palacio de la Inquisition. This was open until 1812 for many of the autrocracies inflicted by the Catholic church on the Mexican people. Go inside, the building is an excellent example of the architecture of the period, particularly the courtyard and the ceilings. An added plus is the Museum of Mexican Medicine. There is no charge to visit this small, but interesting museum. Although many of the artifacts inside are replicas, there is still enough of an interesting collection to swing through the rooms which won't take you long. From there, walk straight down Rep. de Venezuela for a visit to the mercado Abelardo Rodriguez. Be sure to go upstairs to the Community Center to see some wonderful murals as well as a wall sculpture by Isama Noguchi. For more information on my visit to the Plaza area, check out my travel blog at http://searchingfordiego.blogspot.com.

Despite being located next to the much celebrated and visited Secretaria de education publica the plaza Santo Domingo has a very different vibe. We came here in the middle of the day and I was immediately aggressively approached by a man who would not leave me alone. I eventually was able to shake him after a few troubling moments. I noted when sitting on the edge of the plaza that he seemed to be communicating with around 2-3 other men suggesting some kind of racketeering. There was also lots of tents set up suggesting this plaza has been somewhat taken over by the homeless. Overall I would avoid it.

This place has a lot of vendors around, you can walk around the streets and take some pictures of the churches and the old buildings and you can also get a foot massage for80 pesos for about 15 minutes, it is not very safe so exercise precaution.

A pleasant walk to the square. Enjoy watching the families around the fountain. Visit the church. Check out the artisanal scribes.

There is not much fancy about the square, but it is more atmospheric and less touristy than other nearby areas.

Just walking around the neighborhood when I came across this stunning church. It was early morning and the sun hit the church to show its grandeur. Lovely little place to visit.

A relatively small square in the Historical Center a couple of blocks from the Zocalo. It is anchored by the nice Santo Domingo church and abutted by a couple of nice government buildings. Other than that, it is not that impressive for a photo op or a distinct journey.

A lovely, little square with a small market with food and some clothes or accessories, with picturesque buildings around.
