Go to Oaxaca without eating at the mercado then you have not visited Oaxaca. Not a fancy place but for sure a place full of culture an Mexican taste from all the points of view. Great traditional food the whole day.

And eat lunch here everyday! The smoky hall is amazing. Grab some carne asada and chorizo and then eat, eat, eat. We tried the food for 3 different stalls for 2 lunches and all were AMAZING.

Came to try the bbq meats. Overall too salty and the meat was too tough. Did enjoy the experience and the staff at the stalls were very friendly. We picked a BBQ stall ran by a mother/young daughter. The young girl was super awesome. She...More

We went to the market to try some street food. We chose the most crowded stand and ordered the tlayuda (like a large tortilla pizza--really big) and a tamal oaxeqeno which I am not sure, but I think had meat in mole sauce inside. That...More

The market has a wide array of authentic food options. I ate at a few, getting only one item at each spot. Enjoy very low prices for high quality food (chicken soup for 2 USD, tamale mole for 2 USD, etc). There are also many...More

Great place to try a variety of Oaxacan food. I wasn't super impressed with some of the Mole I tried. I do however agree with other travelers that the grilled meat area was the most fun and delicious.

There are lots of places to eat in this Mercado, as you will easily see when you walk in. Let me put in my vote for the grilled food available on the far (north?) side of the place. You'll see stacks of raw meet, hot...More

There are a large number of small restaurants preparing typical food, such as tlayudas, moles and tamales. We chose one that we liked how the dishes looked. The food was just delicious. The talyuda here was open and it was much larger than the plate....More

This is a place mostly for locals, although a lot of stalls clearly cater to tourists. Several stalls offer traditional food and drink from Oaxaca, and the prices, especially for things like local chilies and chocolates, can't be beat.
