I am not a catholic but you can’t help but be mesmerized by the ceilings and altars. There is so much gold it’s almost blinding and the carvings are overwhelming. Every inch is decorated and I’m sure if you spent the day you couldn’t take...More

This church is very interesting to visit. There is a lot of gold in the main altar and in the side chapel. In the entrance of the church is a stylistic family tree of the Guzman family.. amazing. Don’t forget to look above this ceiling....More

One, at times, can tire of visiting "just another church." That is not the case here. Everything about this church is special. We went for Sunday Mass and, even though the service was in Spanish (which we barely understand), it was a very nice experience.

So stunning and intricate. A great place to start your trip to Oaxaca as it is in the center of the historic town. The church used to be used as stables during the Mexican revolution but you would never guess it. Free to enter, free...More

Loved this site. It appealed on many levels. The architecture was really impressive as were the displays. The hidden treat was the outlook over the gardens.

Having been fortunate enough to travel widely, one gets their fair share of church visits. This beautiful old cathedral is an amazing and worthwhile visit. Very large and ornate...moving experience. Don’t miss the adjacent cultural museum - it is also special. And, via the museum,...More

A must do in Oaxaca IMHO. The museum attached to the church is magnificent. With original pieces from the nearby ruins. It has been remodeled beautifully. Also the botanical garden is gorgeous.

you will run into this church. Take a look inside but what is more interesting is what happens out in the plaza. You'll often see bridal parties with brides in amazing wedding dresses. We saw a wedding photographer taking aerial photos with a drone. Oh...More

No lo recuerdo ver algo. Como es un monumento antiguo, dudo mucho que haya. Estoy tratando de recordar de fuera, ni hay rampa, creo!

The best guide ever is Omar Lescas Diaz. His English is wonderful and he knows "all" the history of the area. It may not be worth his while to do one building like this. He is excellent for Monte Alban and the natural tour... More
