I am not a catholic but you can’t help but be mesmerized by the ceilings and altars. There is so much gold it’s almost blinding and the carvings are overwhelming. Every inch is decorated and I’m sure if you spent the day you couldn’t take...More
This church is very interesting to visit. There is a lot of gold in the main altar and in the side chapel. In the entrance of the church is a stylistic family tree of the Guzman family.. amazing.
Don’t forget to look above this ceiling....More
One, at times, can tire of visiting "just another church." That is not the case here. Everything about this church is special. We went for Sunday Mass and, even though the service was in Spanish (which we barely understand), it was a very nice experience.
So stunning and intricate. A great place to start your trip to Oaxaca as it is in the center of the historic town. The church used to be used as stables during the Mexican revolution but you would never guess it. Free to enter, free...More

The best guide ever is Omar Lescas Diaz. His English is wonderful and he knows "all" the history of the area. It may not be worth his while to do one building like this. He is excellent for Monte Alban and the natural tour through the magic cities in the north. So you might combine one of these ours with the cathedral. He picks out the best restaurants - reasonably priced. His local phone is 513-03-67 or 515-54-00.
