En Via is a non-profit microfinance organization working to fight poverty around Oaxaca, and to educate travelers about the power of microfinance by connecting them with local women either through visits to their towns, or through our volunteer program teaching free English classes to women and children. On the visits, travelers meet women who are applying for micro-loans to start or expand their small businesses, from making tortillas to weaving beautiful rugs, to selling flowers in the local market. Participants hear about the women's lives and projects, and what they plan to do with their loans. At the end of the day, 100% of the fee is then used to give interest-free micro-loans to the women we visited.

We really enjoyed our half-day micro-finance tour of three female owned businesses that received no interest loans. We had a delicous commida (mid-day dinner), visited a small mercado (convenience store), and a weaving shop. We had excellent explanations of the foundation by our guides and the loan recipients, what they do and why. Almost all of the cost of the... More

This is no ordinary tour we 4 took yesterday, but an opportunity to experience the Oaxaca area at a level that is truly special. Our guides Nadia and Natalie were delightfully informative and interacted with us 11 tourists and the grantees we visited in an entirely natural and helpful way, as did first-time guide Mariana. The lunch was delicious and... More

Yes, no doubt Oaxaca have some really nice and well known places to visit such as Monte Alban and Hierve el Agua (and do go to see this places!) but with no doubt my highlight experience in the town was the "tour" from En Via. I usually don't like tour but trust me when I say this just don't feel... More

Visiting the women with small businesses in the small towns of Teotitlan del Valle and San Miguel del Valle was inspiring and humbling. We visited a lady who has used small loans to buy blenders for her juice stand in the morning market, a lady who created a little convenience store in her living room, two weaving families, and a... Highly recommended for any trip to Oaxaca! We don't normally sign up for tours of any type while traveling, but this is an exceptional experience for all ages that gives you a chance to meet people in the community and learn about their lives in a relaxed, comfortable way that feels genuine.

If you are looking for a really great cultural experience as a part of your visit to Oaxaca, then you absolutely have to take this tour. It was one of the most interesting and educational things we did. I guess what we enjoyed most was meeting the recipients of En Via's micro finance lending program. And what you'll find is... More

Our tour to Teotitlan and Abasolo was a great experience from beginning to end. We visited with weavers, a baker, a restaurant owner (who served us a delicious lunch!) a hair salon operator and a livestock producer - all of whom are making life better for their families and communities through the micro loans they receive from En Via. Our... More

This was one of the best things we did in our week in Oaxaca: it was outside the usual tourist zone and gave us an intimate look at the real lives of women empowered by microfinance. We were there on Day of the Dead and they welcomed us into their homes, shared stories of their families and their work, and... More

The En Via Foundation offers weekly tours to surrounding villages where tour participants can see this non-profit's micro lending model in practice. We went with about 12 others from Canada, US, Australia and New Zealand on an English-speaking tour toTeotitlán del Valle and another nearby village. En Via tour revenue goes mostly to fund micro loans to women in villages... More

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the artisans and talking with the volunteer tour leaders. This is a great way to see beyond the tourist sites in Oaxaca, and a chance to buy directly from the artesanas.
