After visiting the Rufino Tamayo collection at the museum named for him, we got curious about him. Asked our hotel where to go to see his work, and were given the names of two museums. This one was closer so we went in and, voila!, there were three rooms of his work. It was one of the many magical things... More

In a restored colonial building of great elegance, this museum's changing exhibitions depend for value on the individual curator. At the moment (Feb. 2017) there is a fabulous show of the graphic works of Rufino Tamayo. On my visit, it was empty except for a group of young students who were taking a serious interest in the works. Tamayo was... More

Depends on the exhibit, the building and architecture is very nice. Tamayo is amazing but other exhibits can be avoided.

Small collection, but this is where you'll find the work of Rufino Tamayo--his eponymous museum displays pre-Columbian artifacts

Another must for all art lovers. Rufino Tamayo, was not just a painter, but also a very talented lithographer/printer. And then the added bonus is the special exhibit of Cuban/American painter Carlos Luna whose has some figures that have been likened to Picasso but more unique and intriguing The building itself is also a work of art. A must for... More

In January, there was a mix of artists' work on display: some good; some not so good. However, I don´t remember paying much, if anything, to see what was available. If you don´t go, you won´t know what you missed.

First I want to say that the building is beautiful, and we really enjoyed it. However the exhibits at the time we were there were terrible, even pornographic. And the ones we felt were pornographic involved young children in suggestive poses. It's too bad, because the artist in that particular exhibit was clearly very good. I was glad we were... More

Exhibits here change regularly, and as other reviewers have noted, your experience will largely depend on whether the temporary exhibit you see is worthwhile or not. There is almost no educational signage; no museum guidebooks or exhibit catalogs; and the gift shop is - frankly - tacky as hell. Still, if you luck out and hit it this place when... More
