La Cocina Oaxaquena is a cooking school devoted exclusively to Oaxacan cuisine and specializing in local dishes. The Chef Instructor Gerardo offers comprehensive hands-on cooking classes in a sunny traditionally decorated Mexican kitchen. Two 5 hours cooking classes are available everyday at 9am or 3pm. Pick up and return from your hotel. Price of the class MX$800.00 (USD$60.00) per person.

The cooking class started with a pickup at my hotel in the morning followed by a visit of the local market. Had a great day. Beginning in the market is a really lovely way to start the experience. The class itself was great fun, in a wonderful home and beautiful kitchen. the food was delicious, and very easy to make! This was a fun cooking class, which was topped off by a delicious meal. We really enjoyed our afternoon and evening experience in the cooking school. Gerardo picked up all of the participants at our hotels, and then all five of us went to the Central Market to learn about the food there and what we would be cooking and eating. My husband & I participated in this activity as part of a group tour. The food was delicious and the instructions were very clear. The recipes seemed to be very time intensive, so we'll probably leave the cooking to the experts. It was a fun outing and the kitchen was lovely.

Gerardo collected us from our hotel to take us to the market to buy the ingredients for our menu. No idea what this market is called but it is a fascinating destination in it's own right. This was a lot of fun and ended with one of our best meals in Oaxaca. Gerardo picked us up at our hotel and drove to the market where we picked out ingredients.
