This partially open-air Cathedral and Convent is another cultural gem among many in Oaxaca. It was left unfinished by the Conquistadors since the locals who were required to build the place died en masse of smallpox, a European illness that the locals had no resistance...More

Wish I knew more about the history of the place other than the quick blurb my tour guide gave us, but it is really a stunning place, great for photos.

WE did not stay long at this stop as time was running out and there is not much I learned about it other than I enjoyed the architecture and what part of history it played. It was a church of another denomination.

This place is atmospheric, but with so many other things to do in the area, I would not go out of my way to see this unless I had the time. Our group shorted itself at Monte Alban to get both sites into one short...More

This was one of the stops on the way back from a tour to Monte Alban. Unfortunately the tour guide was not very familiar with the very interesting history surrounding this convent. Some later research uncovered the stories and even prompted a return trirp.

This beautiful ex monastery has no roof but is still majestic. I fell in love with the stones that are green and spying the leftover monochromatic frescos that you have to really look for. They aren't always easy to find. Make sure you go out...More

The Ex-monastery of Santiago Apóstol stands without its roof in a large prairie. The greenish stones are prominent and there are remnants of a monochromatic fresco under one of the arches in the basilica. There is a small museum with a lovely cloister garden at...More
