It is bigger than you think and a lot of history is behind it. It was a fortress, a castle and prison. Thank God they have preserved it.

This is a nice place to visit, it used to be a very famous prison, is the Mexican version of Alcatraz. 4 Mexican Presidents were in this jail. Has a lot of history. It was very hard for prisoners to escape, but there were some that were able to do so. You have to visit if you go to Veracruz!!

If you are visiting Veracruz, this is a place you have to see. There is so much history and beauty at this fort. And keep your eyes peeled for sea turtles swimming in the moats and pelicans searching for fish right in front of you. If it’s too warm for you outside, you can go inside the museum to see some beautiful artifacts and get some AC. And if you forget to take your own water, they sell lots of water and soda as you’re entering the fort.

Recommended place if what you like are the historical places combined with museums of the history of the site. Located in the Port of Veracruz, 15 minutes from downtown, you can go alone or with the help of certified guides to the different attractions offered by this beautiful fort. Through its buildings, courtyards and cells you transport yourself through history, reliving the different uses that were given to this site, warehouse, jail and government center at some time. Take water with you because it is hot and a good camera for you to take many pictures of the place.
