Bienvenido! to Josefina's Cocina con Alama. "Alma" the word for soul in Spanish is how authentic Mexican cooking begins. We invite you to explore and taste the many wonders of Mexcian cuisine through hands-on instruction with the wonderful cook & chef, Josefina. Join Josefina in her Cozumel home and kitchen for a day to learn how to make regional Yucatecan delights as well as other Mexican dishes. The class is designed for those that want a "taste" of Mexican culture (you will even get to visit the local market). It is set up for all ages to enjoy, yet comprehensive enough for those avid cooks looking to hone and learn new skills. Be prepared to eat as you will cook a feast suited for the Mayan gods!

On our one day in Cozumel on our recent cruise, my chef husband and I had a great "foodie" day at Josefina's Cocina Con Alma, first shopping in a local market, and then learning to cook a variety of delicious Mexican dishes, many of which were delightfully new and unfamiliar to us, and finally enjoying the yummy fruits of our... The class started with a trip to the local market. We were expecting a tour of the market and an intro to some of the local foods. However, we basically all just stood around waiting for our chef to buy the ingredients on his own. There was no interaction or education. It was a waste of time. As for the... More

The people were nice, the food was good, but certainly not worth $80 per person. The man teaching the class was pleasant enough, but not a chef. Much of what was made was made in the kitchen behind the scenes, including some of the more complicated aspects of the dishes which would have been nice to know how to make.... More

Hi Anna! Thank you for sharing your experience - we certainly are sad to hear that you were disappointed with your class. However, we do appreciate that you took the time write a review. The Josefina Cooking School welcomes many people in a class (and often from 7 different cruise ships a day and other places on the island as... More

It was a fun experience shopping at the market and cooking the food. I would recommend this and plan on it taking the time it's scheduled for.

My husband and I were the 1st to arrive for our class. We were made to feel very welcome by Luis and spent time in the garden. Home was very cute. Experience was true to others reviews. Looked through cookbook. Luis had already chosen the appetizers and salad choices and together as a group we chose the main course. We... More

We had been to Cozumel before and were disappointed at the shoddy goods in the markets. We really like to see authentic local flavor at any place we go, so I was thrilled to find this class online, particularly because my husband loves to cook and had wanted to take a class. It was great to be invited into a... More

I was really looking forward to this class but it did not live up to the reviews. Not sure why this gets such great reviews. Our group of five were very disappointed. Perhaps it was because there were a total of 12 in our class. It felt crowded and there was no hands on cooking whatsoever. I was also disappointed... More

My apologies that this class did not live up to your expectations. Unfortunately you were in a larger class (and also Valentine’s Day). It’s just that time of year with the high-volume of cruise ships and tourists the island receives. Some days are busier than others and you just happened to be in on a day that there were a... More

We were invited into a private home where Louis told us about the culture . Then we picked a menu from a book. We made appitizers and dips we went to the market on foot and bought the ingredients we needed for our meal.lt was an eye opening experience . We walked back to the house and prepared chicken fajitas... More

Three friends and I went to Josefina's cooking class when our ship docked in Cozumel. Our host Luis was very warm and welcoming and we had a wonderful time. It was very interesting to be in a private home and go to a local market, something we never would have been able to do on our own. The food was... More

We were an hour late, totally our fault but we did not know what the local time was. It was a great experience anyway. Yummy food, small intimate setting. Would do again, for sure.
