Hacienda de Sotuta was exactly the kind of experience you should have on your visit to Merida. Their website is easy to use to make your own reservation. Our pick up point was a scarce half block from our hotel. The driver, Mr. Domingo was prompt and informative as we picked up a few others. Upon our arrival we were... More

The tour (in both Engl and Esp) is not long and is interesting. They discuss the history of the haciendas and why the value of the fiber dropped such that the industry lost importance. The cenote onsite is a nice one, and a perfect cool-off. The onsite restaurant is quite good, far better than most restaurants at places like this.... More

It was really nice to go to a place where they make henequen. And the censored was great. The only problem is that it is not cheap. $430 per person for less than 3 hours of tour

I got lost and so missed the start of the tour. When I arrived with a group of 4 they were kind enough to give us our own tour. The guide was terrific! He was excited about the information and very dramatic in his presentation. It is an old henequen hacienda that has been converted into a working museum. We... More

Our guide was animated and multi-lingual; describing each area with deep background and enthusiasm. It is, perhaps, more costly than some other things you can do in the area but very worth it. There are many people involved in the presentations. We made a reservation online the night before and were welcomed by name upon our arrival the next morning.... More

Today I went on this tour, I booked at their office on Calle 55. It was an educational tour, full of the history of the area, the economic growth and demise of the industry but mainly it was about community. Living in, sharing and working within days creating something special for and of the community. The current owner of the... More

Entering Sotuta de Peon is going back in history to the twentieth century. Stunning is how they still have this old machinery up and going. You will have a first hand insight of how henequen or sisla fiber was produced, shipped and manufactured. All of this is accompanied with a truc drive to a beautiful cenote = sink hole. All... More

This is located about an hour outside of Merida. And, its well worth a day trip. The tour also includes a cenote visit, and its a nice one. This tour gives you an insight into a once thriviing industry that created the wealth in this region. And its still a functioning operation. There are also Mayan Palapa style lodgings availble... Sotuta de Peon was an unexpected adventure. Traveling back in time to learn of henequin production and trade (we call it sisal) followed by a swim in their pristine cenote was amazing. The staff was engaging and knowledgeable and the food was delicious! We highly recommend a day here. Don't forget to take a picture with Don Jose, a truly... More

Very well organized tour and delivers what is advertised. The price is a little bit steep, but not hard to justify. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in Merida.
