What a find! Definitely worth our time and money. Big thanks to Alex, his family and friends for coordinating these lessons and for the bachata classes! We loved meeting the other students in the language and optional dance classes as well. My fiance and I took two weeks of intensive Spanish lessons here with Alex. We really enjoyed our time and the lessons were quite rigorous. We went into the classes with some basic Spanish skills. Alex taught completely in Spanish (with some code switching for some words in English) but he was careful to speak at a pace and with vocabulary and grammar that was accessible for us to understand. We met from 10am until 2pm everyday with a break in between. We had conversation lessons, grammar, reading and writing. Our class sizes ranged between 3 to 6 people, depending on the day but I think we all felt that we had plenty of opportunity to speak and practice individually. I am very pleased with the progress I've made here and may continue lessons via Skype in the future! Also, big thanks to Javier for the fun bachata lessons!

I was in PDC for three weeks. My husband went for dental work and I went to improve my Spanish. Initial communication was through FB messenger. I arranged to visit the school upon my arrival and discuss private lessons. We actually walked past the school the first time. But do not be deterred by the fact that the school is small and inconspicuous. I arranged two hour private lessons with professor Alex four times a week for the first two weeks. Unfortunately due to mutual scheduling issues I only had one class the last week. I cannot begin to convey how much I enjoyed and benefitted from those classes. I had some basic Spanish knowledge from self taught computer program but the one on one constant conversation in Spanish cannot compare. This school is family run. Alex's wife is super sweet. His daughter Haleyda also teaches and she was instrumental in arranging a fabulous private tour to Chichen Itza for us. When I left I felt like I was leaving family behind .I wish I could have had at least another month of daily lessons. I plan to continue lessons with Alex through modern technology and hope to return to PDC for some more in person lessons. I highly recommend learning Spanish here. I don't think you will be disappointed.

If you’re looking to learn Spanish in Playa del Carmen or even in Quintana Roo, you should to choose this school! You won’t be disappointed. I’ve traveled though Mexico and learned Spanish here at the beginning of my trip, but I loved it so much I came back for more lessons at the end of my trip too.

The place is run by a lovely family. They are very welcoming and do their best to make you feel at home. They also provide cooking class on Wednesday and dance class on Friday if you follow any kind of lesson plan. This way you practice Spanish straight away and you also meet new people. They offer group and private lessons for any level. I highly recommend them, you won’t regret it!

Highly recommended!

A friend of mine and I studied Spanish and lived with the family Galicia for 3 months (2013). I often think back to that time as one of the best in my life.

Why it was that good?

- Teaching Spanish (what we actually went for):
They truly know their profession and make you comfortably learning it, especially if you start at zero.

- Accommodation:
A clean house and harmonious family (sundays), very tasty food. Also, they seriously respect your privacy and show honest interest in you as a person. We felt being part of the family. No prejudice, but inclusion (already in 2013, before it was cool), and an overall respect for any culture, ideas, beliefs or whatever.

- Bonus:
A long list of things you can't know when booking: they invited us to their funny family meetings where everybody is welcomed, showed us truly mexican restaurants, invited us to cinema, Chimy took us to play football with his club every weekend which was crazy fun, organised various trips to Chichen Itza, Merida or the caves, they helped us going to the doctor after an infection due to bad sea food, helped when we had a parking fee from the police and had to show up at the police station, they organised accommodations for our friends from switzerland visiting us, wanted to try fondue with us because they never had it, they took us for go-kart racing, organised birthday parties, salsa courses, and so on...

This is what I still remember almost 10 years later.
A truly hard working family with good vibes and being a role model in exemplifying honourable values.

I experienced other host families doing this for money only, hardly speaking to me, providing me bad accommodations and food, judging me for going out etc. or ignoring paid services like wlan or a single room.
You wont find that with la familia Galicia.

And besides all the fun, you learn Spanish, which is - in my opinion - one of the most useful things you can do in life. That still helps me a lot in my international working environment.

Conclusion:
Study spanish, do it in Mexico, and do it at the Chichen Itza Language School!

My husband and I attended "Chichen Itza Language School" for two weeks in October 2021, and can strongly recommend it to anyone willing to learn Spanish from the native speakers. The school is very well organized, it offers private, semiprivate, and group lessons. We took semiprivate lessons two hours a day for 10 days, and our professor, Haleyda, was a wonderful teacher and a very nice person. We came with a limited knowledge in Spanish and at the end were able to discuss multiple topics in past, present and future tenses. In addition to formal classes the school offers other activities (like, local dancing and cooking), hold by the school Principal, Alex.
The school is very conveniently located in the center of Playa del Carmen, which is a famous tourist destination on Yucatan Caribbean shore. We were able to combine our morning classes with afternoon tropical beach vacation.

I can’t say enough great things about this place and the instructors! We were greeted by Profesor Alex and his wife Ivonne who made us feel welcome and at home. They had a flexible schedule/timing which was great because our Spanish lessons and cooking class were all planned last minute and they were so gracious to take us in and even use their kitchen to cook the food. Alex found time out of his busy schedule to go shopping with us to get all the ingredients to prepare food that are popular for Mexican Independence Day (ex:Chiles En Nogada) while giving us a history lesson and teaching us Spanish throughout the process. Ivonne is so sweet, always asking us if we’re ok and if we need help with anything. 10/10 would recommend this place and definitely planning on coming here again!

The magnitude of the temples and their conservation state is amazing. The personalize attention that Tanya from Mexico Travel Reisen gave us was a special highlight because she not only enjoys what she does but also is very knowledgeable of Mayan history and symbols. Tanya offers a tour that goes beyond sights, she showed us the plants, the trees, even stopped on the highway so that we could look calmly at a tarantula that was crossing the road. Due to Covid-19 we avoided other tours that she could have taken us to. She is a person that loves nature and animals. She can take one to scuba and swimming in lovely Cenotes and the sea with sharks and turtles. Tanya speaks English very well and has a very positive character. We will definitely contact her again when returning to Playa del Carmen. On our return we visited the colonial city of Valladolid and had a very delicious lunch at El Meson del Marques in an old colonial house/hotel in the city.

Alex is a wonderful and patient teacher. I knew zero Spanish when I first came and by the end of my 70 hours of lessons here (over 4 months), I was more confident in conversing in my day-to-day activities and motivated to keep learning. Lessons were flexible, laidback and fun but effective as they were always taught in Spanish. This was pretty hard at first but it really maximised my exposure to the language and trained me to think like a native speaker (and stop wasting time translating from one language to another)

The school is family-run and everyone there always makes you feel welcomed and supported. The inclusion of salsa lessons and cooking classes were also a great way to further immerse in the local culture.

If you are looking to learn and improve your Spanish, I highly recommend coming here.

Muchisimas gracias por todos :)

I took a 21 hours package of Spanish lessons with this school, 90 minutes each morning for almost 2 weeks, while I stayed at an all- inclusive in Playacar, loved it, teachers are very professional and at the same time very friendly, it is a small school with very personalized service. I liked it so much, that I decided to pursue online with Skype.
I recommend this school for all levels. Gracias!
