About
The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary was closed on October 13, 2014 due to the death of the owner of the property. Thank you for your support. The Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is a privately owned 60 acre ranch. On the ranch we have 15 rescued Spider Monkeys that live in natural habitats. There are also wild monkeys that pass through on their normal feeding routes. In addition to Spider Monkeys we have saved many, many animals including lots of street dogs. Although the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary is closed at the moment we hope you will support us in our move to the YuCARE Ranch. The YuCARE Foundation will be dedicated to broad based animal rescue (starting with the monkeys of Tulum Monkey Sanctuary) and will be self-sustaining both financially and environmentally.

I have never seen this many monkeys in one place - no less - very happy and social monkeys! This place is a gem - our tour guide - was absolutely fabulous, knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.

What a wonderful place the staff were both knowledgeable and approachable the setting was great the cages blended into the jungle which made it look less like a zoo . The quad bike trip right into the jungle was a true experience with the beautiful dip into the cenoto at the end a refreshing beautiful experience to end the day . Will be going again next time in Mexico

Our family of 6 had a great time visiting the Monkey Sanctuary. We heard about other trips into the jungle to see the monkeys and other animal sancutaries, with some saying this was a “zoo”. Perhaps in some rights it could be considered a “zoo” but we had a guided tour and saw several different monkeys and large parrots and mackaws and learned a lot about them, with the highlight of entering the enclosure and having a spider monkey walk along your shoulders and head and eating while poised on your head, lap or hand. They are cute creatures and it was a fun and unique experience. We have petting zoos back in the states so we could have done without feeding the goats, deer and pigs but for others, I’m sure this was also a fun part of the tour. It is a modern, clean facility and Edwin was a great guide.

Tulum ruins are an interesting sample of the Mayan diversity. They were polytheist, and their building reflect their beliefs. I like their ample settings and how their main buildings face the sea.. They used colors to decorate their buildings, Red was predominant. The colonization brought many diseases that forced the Tulum habitants to abandon it.

Love this place! The guide was super friendly and very knowledgeable about all of the animals. From there we rode ATVs to an amazing cenote where we had a refreshing swim. Best excursion by far....just wear lots of bug spray, mosquitoes were crazy!!!!

They rehabilitate exotic pets and injured wildlife. They habitats were clean and large. The animals were well cared for and the guides explained how they arrived. Some monkeys had their tails removed by pet owners who wanted them to be less mobile. Some monkeys hands and legs were injured. The place was a sanctuary were these animals could be safe.

The whole sanctuary was great. The little squirrel monkeys captured our hearts. They sat on us, looked us in the eye and were so gentle. Great experience. The birds are beautiful and tame. Fed the little goats - so cute. Wonderful experience.

I appreciate the effort and passion that the rangers put into this project. I can't remember if it's maintained already by two or three generations but you can see that these people live for this reserve. It was a nice surprise when our ranger started to speak Italian with us. He learned it from one of the Italian Biologists that was staying there to observe ana analyse the Monkey's for more than two years.

Go there, especially if you have kids! It's not like in a Zoo. You get to see these animals right in their natural environment!
