We visited this spectacular beach on Sunday evening. It was most beautiful. Serene. Majestic. Utterly beautiful. It was our fist time here and we will definitely come back. The village was so lively with lots of locals and visitors outside the local pub having good fun. The atmosphere was happy and safe.

This beach is technically known as Ballydonegan strand and it’s a little cracker. The sand is silvery white. It’s not like normal sand as it seems to be most derived from quartz swept down from the tailings of the ancient mine workings in Allihies. Whatever the reason the result is a lovely beach and a crystal blue/green sea. If you are lucky to get a lovely sunny day (rare I know on Beara) it’s an absolute cracker not to be missed and the clean sea is invigorating and sure the sand which is useless for building sand castles will exfoliate you for free!! . Just note while there is parking it is limited but as an added bonus there’s a campsite with toilet and shower facilities and in addition beside the beach in summer is a street food outlet called Beara Barista which is a class little setup.

This campsite is in an amazing location. It’s a smallish campsite yet well serviced. The toilet and shower block were spotless. It was very cheap for the pitch. Right next to the beach.
And Teresa. An angel in human shape. Nothing is too much trouble. Generous to a fault. She gave me a spin up to Allihies as I was wrecked after trekking all day, gave me her number and offered to pick me up in an hour if I wanted to stay for a pint. 😂 I didn’t take the return lift as I felt it would have been taking advantage of her generosity. All I paid was €10 for the pitch for the evening. Sure the spin to the village was worth more. Highly recommended. Thank you

Loved this beach, stunning location, crystal blue sea, white sands perfect for swimming. This beach was so quiet.

An unexpected pleasure, the beach is great, protected area for children to swim, stands out on the rugged coast. Add the pretty little town and this is a great holiday destination.

Ballydonegan beach is down the hill from Allihies and is the best beach in the locality. While the area provides spectacular views and there are marvellous coves, most of the coves are stony and sandy beaches are relatively rare. Ballydonegan beach is a fine stretch of sandy shore at the head of the bay. It's very popular for that reason and will be busy in good weather but it is well worth a visit if you fancy getting your toes wet! While it can satisfy your need for ice-cream and cold drinks, you will need to go Allihies for anything more substantial but that is only a few minutes walk away.

We always travel early in the year before tourist season so the water is generally too cold unless you are in a wet-suite, but there are great pubs and adventure to be found on the Beara if you get out and explore.

Alllihies Beach was very windy and cold at the tip of the Beara Peninsula. It had a lovely little cafe and Mining Museum which my hisband thought was worth visiting.

The descent from the Castletownbere side of the Beara Peninsula, reveals Allihies beach in all it's glory ! It's a sight to behold ! Great for a picnic and an afternoon of relaxation....but it's a long drive for a day out and parking can be tricky on a sunny day ! There are old but clean public toilets at this beach.

Turned out to be a beautiful day so we decided to stay for the day!
Beautiful unspoilt safe beach with toilet and water facilities nearby.
Village is 2 mins by car and local shop provided us with essentials for picnic although
Not the best stocked!
