Dedicated to preserving the pioneer and industrial heritage of the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii. Summer hours begin May 31, 10am to 4pm daily. September 15th. to May 30, 2pm to 4pm Saturday and Sunday only. Come by and learn our history!

Lots of antiques but not much related to haida gwaii. Found this museum could have been in ont, b.c, anywhere really. By donation.

This is the smallest of HG's museums, but is worth a stop. The stuffed albino raven is one of the treasured artefacts, and there is even a video of the raven hopping around before he was sadly electrocuted.

An interesting stop and a good rainy day activity. They have a large collection interesting items that although seem overwhelming to have them on shelves and tables at first - it is actually well organized.

The Port Clements Museum (which also doubles as the town’s Visitor’s Information Centre) is an eclectic and compact space run by volunteers. While the collection may at first seem a bit hodgepodge, the primary focus is on the history of Port Clements itself. In this regard, logging plays a key and central role. As you browse the collection you will come across plenty of logging paraphernalia – most of it from the last hundred years – showing what built Port Clements during the logging industry’s heyday. The rest of the collection focuses on small business and home life in the small town. Within this context, you’ll come across old machinery once used in local businesses, i.e.: classic cash registers, typewriters and computers. Some of the items, I feel, are quite asinine while still others are rich with history. For instance, I loved the brief references to the Grumman Goose – once a very common sight on the Islands – and the war effort.
The museum isn’t all about industry, however. Natural history is also glimpsed at in this small space: a couple taxidermy birds sit amongst the collection, chief amongst them the “White” Raven.” A brief comment on this rare bird. The White Raven was a true albino, estimated to have been born in late 1996. It lived in the general Port Clements area. In time, it became a popular tourist attraction and became accustomed to people. It met a tragic end in 1997 – the same year the Golden Spruce was chopped down – when it flew into some electrical wires. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to view this rare bird while it was still living – quite beautiful. So it was kind of bittersweet to see it now preserved in the museum.
Finally, the museum also offers up some valuable information and context on the aforementioned Golden Spruce. Here, you can view some cuttings and spruce needles from the tree. The fine folks working at the counter can also provide some of their own knowledge – all valuable if one wishes to walk the Golden Spruce Trail later on.
In short, the Port museum is certainly worth at least a brief visit. You get to see and experience a lot for $4; however, with its emphasis on the logging industry, it will appeal more to some folks than others. I suspect many feel a sense of nostalgia when walking through these doors!

This museum mainly contains tools and artifacts of pioneer settlers and loggers. It was interesting to wander through and see things that we had used ourselves decades ago (or at least seen at our grandparents' houses. There are a lot of big forestry machines outside the museum building, which are impressive. (They could use a better information display telling non-loggers how each machine was used, though!) For those just passing through, it'll take an hour. Those with a deeper interest could spend a half day.
