The Home of Welsh Castle Life: Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Castle’s exciting past. Caldicot Castle’s impressive structure is surrounded by an idyllic 55 acre Country Park. You will be able to travel through time and discover the home of Welsh castle life, from medieval times to the twentieth century. The castle was developed as a fortress by Royal hands in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home. The river Nedern winds its way through the park and the wildlife pond is home to a variety of wildfowl.

The place was ever so busy but still loads to see and do. The castle was lovely and really clean. It was a free weekend so we tried to get to see a lot but I didn't see anywhere where we could have made a donation. Great spot a must visit.

We spent a lovely morning here while visiting friends. Climbing to the top of the towers are well worth the effort, as you are rewarded with the most amazing views. There are lots of information boards to tell you all about the castle and its history. And you can buy coffee and snacks in the cafe.

Unfortunately, the castle wasn't open as it opens in April but still a lovely place to walk around if a sunny day. Lovely old castle and great parkland surrounding the area to enjoy. Definitely worth it if in the area.

I continued my journey on to Caldicot Castle which is on the Agincourt Trail. The original owners of the castle were the De Bohuns, Henry V’s maternal family. They provided a large part of the Welsh contingent of 500 archers who joined Henry V for his campaign in France. The castle was set in a park where a concert for... More

Apart from being a great attraction in its own right there is always something else going on. Most weekends in the summer there are people in costume showing you how they lived/cooked/used long bow in Medieval times. Very often there are re-enactments of battles/food fayres/beer festivals/open air cinema/open air concerts. There is a board in the car park showing upcoming... More

It's a fantastic place to visit or to have a picnic. Around the Castle there was a pirate's fair and a horse race. Great to walk around.

Visited on a sunny day in October when the trees were looking their best. Found out about this castle when looking for dog-friendly days out. It is absolutely beautiful with a fascinating history. I'm amazed that such an attraction is free (including parking). However, charges apply when there are special events on. Inside there are lots of picnic tables and... More

Caldicot castle is well worth a visit. Large open parkland, with a very well mainrained castle main building to explore. However, check the events web site before leaving home. This place is used as an events centre and regularly has reinactment type battles going on. Status quo played here in August 2016. Big fire work display here in November. This... More
