If you like hummingbirds, go no further. The feeders area is amazing. We came here to see the endangered rufous-crested coquette, and got to see one right away. It is also a nice hike up to the feeders area.

Good low key accommodation for the nature-oriented traveller. The rooms are small but adequate - you don't go to a place like this to spend time in the room other than for sleeping! - though hot water availability was a bit problematic. Staff are uniformly...More

This was a very typical birding lodge. The hummingbird feeders were amazing and the birds in the grounds were great. But the problem with so many of these birding lodges is that they charge high prices and deliver very poor, badly maintained accommodation - and...More

We stumbled across this lodge on a recommendation from our driver. For birders this is hummingbird paradise with close up looks at 15 species. Walks up the hill during the day and at dusk produced many species including fruiteaters and owls. Our guide Carlos was...More

Moyobamba is known as the city of orchids and at Waqanki you get to see a large number of them. I've been there a number of times and everytime different orchids are flowering, just simply incredible! (remember like all things natural, they have seasons) There...More

We visited to see the orchids which were disappointing - not many flowering. The humming birds were spectacular though and well worth the visit. There are several different species, and a nice kind of tree house viewing platform. But the place is a bit half-baked....More

This is probably very beautiful and impressive when the orchids are in full bloom, but at this time of year (April), there was barely a flower in the whole place. Not their fault - nature's a bit like that! The humming birds were interesting, though.
