We were there the third week of September 2016. First, seeing the partially manmade harbor at Pleasant Bay Nova Scotia is worth the very short side trip from this beautiful stretch of the Cabot Trail & the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Pleasant Bay is situated on the northwestern coast of Cape Breton Island, along the Gulf of St Lawrence.... More

Visited this centre while waiting for our tour boat. Has good information on aquatic mammals in this area with video and displays. Washrooms are available but donation for use is nearby. There is a $4 Centre admission. Worth the knowledge gained.

We spent over an hour at the Whale Interpretive Centre and I was impressed. I have been on whale watches and to other whale museums in the U.S. and had never felt real baleen or seen such a great video about the history of whale/ human interactions. I also had fun in their gift store and came home with two... More

The video will make you sad, to see how people have mistreated and over hunted these beautiful creature. Excellent displays. Interesting how long the different types of whales can dive and stay under water before coming up.

The Whale Interpretive Centre is certainly worth a stop! The exhibits showing the actual size of whales were particularly impressive. "Menus" show the diets of the different types of whales. I enjoyed listening to the calls of different species, and the aquarium with a rare blue lobster! Entrance fee of $5, and there is a small gift shop as well.... More

A small little center with a small entrance fee ($5) you will learn a lot about whales in a short amount of time. Staff is friendly, and it's well worth a stop here, especially if you're going to do a whale watching tour.

I recommend that you stop and take in the whale interpretation centre on your way through Pleasant Bay. It is very well laid out and informative. Good for children or adults. If you have time, spend 30 minutes here before going on your whale watching tour.

lots of good info on whales, some neat displays to show you size of whales including bones, and the "menus" that show what they eat. Blue lobster in tank. Great for a small stop (maybe 30-45min) and they have picnic tables outside for your packed lunch with the kids by the water.
