If this temple happen to be along your route do stop for some great photos. It's mainly for locals but at times there are spurts of tour buses that come along.
Donations are welcomed but not mandatory.
Please do abide by the do's and dont's of temple attire and behaviour.
Recommended for a 30 minute stop and photo opportunity.

The temple is easily accessible from either Singaraja/Lovina or from Tulamben. When we came for a visit, there had just been a ceremony the day before, so a lot of the temple decoration and other ceremonial objects had not been stored away yet.
The most famous image of the temple is the boat shrine down by the sea. The temple itself has some nice carving but is not as ornate as some other temples in the area (e.g. Pura Beji or Pura Jagaraga).
Someone from the temple suddenly appeared behind us as we were taking pictures. He then kept following us very closely. He probably wanted to guide us, but he must have sensed that we weren't interested, so he just kept following us very closely without saying anything and with a sour face--definitely making us uncomfortable. I tried to engage him in small talks, like "oh, was there a ceremony recently?", but the guttural sounds coming from him just made us want to end our visit sooner rather than later. Even in spiritual Bali, the path to enlightenment is paved with tourist dollars.

The northern node of the Balinese balancing spiritual centers. The older, floral and feminine place for worshiping seems recently to have transformed into a more masculine oriented spiritual center. Active and beautiful it definitely is worth a visit. Remember to visit the boat sculpture, too, placed where the first monk is said to have set foot on Bali.

A wonderful privilege to be invited to this festival. The Balinese people are so welcoming to foreigners and are more than willing and happy to share their amazing culture. Learn some Bahasa Indonesia and their faces light up to hear a foreigner speaking their language.

It is a temple used by locals, so you can join the daily spiritual acting of Balinese people. There are guides to explain about hindu religion in general and this specific temple. And extra bonus is to ask the priest outside Ti bless your car or scooter as a kind of drive in priest ceremony...

What a great place, this place so holly and clean. We went here for praying and there are so many people come for pray as well. After praying we had relax for a few hours to enjoy the panorama of the Bali sea.. so cool..love it

This temple is also known as Bali Stone Temple and is located 24 km east of Singaraja town. The three temple that can be visited in succession are Pura Beji, Pura Maduwe Karang and then Pura Ponjok Batu. During the drive to this temple you pass the costal road with good views of the ocean. Our driver cum guide informed us, that part of the temple is sticking out to the sea as a small peninsula and this, in Balinese is called Ponjok. Due to its remote location there were no other tourist at this site but some local pilgrims were around for their prayers. Entry is by donation, while taking a guide, will cost you more. We paid a donation of 20000 each, to enter the temple but refused guides. We used our own sarongs.
Inside the temple, there are many nice carvings, and tall shrines which appears very majestic. Some ceremonies were on going when we visited. At the waterfront, there is a boat shrine. About an hour is all that you need to tour this area. Bring a bottle of water,sunblock and a hat with you.

Came here as part of a van tour. Have visited many temples across SE Asia, found this one quite interesting. The site is not large, and an hour was easily enough time to look around. There were no other visitors while we were there and looking at the visitor log book, it seemed to be well off the beaten track.
Got a guide (well he was the caretaker) to show us around, and enjoyed putting on the traditional clothing and participating in a blessing before entering the temple. The most interesting thing about the temple was a stone carving of a boat at the base of the cliff, I had not seen one of those before.
We provided a tip to the caretaker, though were not prompted to do so.

Came here on an organised tour. Didn't need long -about 20 minutes or so.
Worth having a guide for this one, or you just won't appreciate it. Guide cost is a tip, and a donation to the temple is also expected. We donated 50k for the group of four.
It's quiet - we were the first of the day to arrive. The tour was interesting and the guide knowledgable, having been there since he was 9 years old, having had little schooling. His english was good, learned from tourists.
There were some interesting carvings, including one of a local dutchman riding a bicycle - a previous local identity. There is a little boat statue out on the rocks - the story is explained.
We were told this was an important temple as it provides balance.

The temple is usually crowded with locals for practical reasons – for worship and prayers. The entrance fee is by donation of an amount of your choice. A guide is strongly recommended, although not mandatory. You would need to pay an additional amount for the guide. As with all temples in general, it is best to visit the temple in the morning or early afternoon when most of the activity is taking place, unless you are into viewing a sunset.
