The library at the abbey is absolutely stunning! We drove from Salzburg on our way to Graz and the trip was about two hours. Great winding mountain roads along the way. We paid extra to take photos in the library. We spend about 30 minutes inside, taking it all in. There were about 10 full minutes that we had the... More

The drive is about 2 hrs from Salzburg and worth every minute. It may not be easily found information, but you do have to pay extra at the entrance for the privilege to take photos inside of the library. Well worth every cent. Our teenage son was skeptical at first was was interested in the biological museum on site, and... More

What a gorgeous library. I understood why the Admont Library is considered one of the top ten most beautiful libraries in the world! Looking down the long room with two level stacks on each side and the optical illusion of the floor titles is quite stunning. The paintings on the ceilings and descriptions signs were beautiful and educational. I purchased... More

Day ticket for the admont monastery costs 10 euros but with it you can enter as many times as you want to the museum , and having small children with you that can be very convinient. So in the morning we went with our daughter just for a fast view of library to be more oriented where things are and... More

Whilst major parts of the monatery founded in the 11th century burned away in the 19th century, the library remained as it was since the 16th/17th/ 18th century. Impressive book store and inmporessive monuments - you have to take a guided tour to understand all of the items you may see there.

Admont was one of the top Lonely Planet Guide sites, as we worked our way through Austria. the Abbey is well signed from the main road. There was plenty of free parking. We went to visit the Abbey church first. It's a fine and ornate church with a wonderful vaulted ceiling. Next we visited the excellent Museum with some wonderful... More

In the midst of an Alpine scenery of stunning beauty a 1000-year old Abbey - seemingly in contrast and yet perfectly fitting into the place. Absolutely perfect state of renovation, innovative museum, and above all: a huge golden-white library with hundreds of thousands of books. Benedictine history and culture at its best!!! Impressive!!! A must-see!

This is a great place and there are so many different exhibitions to visit. Modern art, the history of the monastery with some really interesting videos, one on food, the library which is absolutely stunning with its frescoes and it has the world largest collection of books for a monastery. Added to that is the shop selling local wines, a... More
