About
Jagala Waterfall is a waterfall in the lower course of the Jagala River, approximately 4 km before the river flows into the Gulf of Finland. The waterfall is approx. 8 metres in height and more than 50 metres in width. It is the widest natural waterfall in Estonia. The waterfall is a peculiar sight to see in winter, when the water mass frozen in cold weather becomes a glistening ice wall with large icicles. A tunnel surrounded in both sides by ice may be formed in between the ice hanging down from the edge of the waterfall and the wall of waterfall.Interesting to know:- In terms of fishery the lower course of the Jagala River from the waterfall to the river mouth is one of the most valuable ones in Estonia – large trout and salmon resources can be found here.

I think it was less spectacular than expected, but it depends on the season. However, it is worth seeing if you have a good time in Tallinn. We took bus 151 from Tallinn with an easy bus shift along the way (on a big main road) to a bus stop just 900 meters from the waterfall. It costs 2.90 EURO. We drove with Bolt taxi back which costs 20-25 EURO. There is absolutely no need to pay too much for a guided tour here.

Wonderful day at Jagala Waterfall. We went in the summer on a warm day. You can see people enjoying a picnic and enjoying the water. It’s easy to access the waterfall from the street. Just walk down a few stairs and you are there. There is also ample parking. Highly recommended if you are visiting Estonia.

Nice waterfall for a quick visit from Tallinn. However I found that there is not much to see around. For me it was good that I came on an organized trip so we were visiting Lahemaa national park and the waterfall was on the way. So to go all the way from Tallinn by public transport just to see it, maybe it would have been too much. We were lucky that there was huge amount of water since winter had just ended so ice was melting. But in summer it might be disappointing, the guide said. I prefer Keila waterfall in terms of nice walk and atmosphere to go around.

Very impressive waterfall! Parking very close to it and well worth seeing. A path goes along side it too. The water looks brown as it cascades over.

We got the bus from Tallinn to the waterfall. It cost €2 for a single journey and took 45mins. The bus stops on the main road and it's a 1km walk to the waterfall. There is a walking path that leads directly there and it took us around 20mins to walk there. In the car park there is a portable toilet.
There are a few wooden steps to walk down to get to the bottom.
We went during the summer following a number of months of unseasonably warm weather and no rain so it was not as impressive as it usually would be.
The buses are infrequent (less than one an hour) so check the timetable before setting out.
There is a little shop on the main road where can purchase snacks and drinks. There is not an extensive selection and mainly just crisps and ice creams but nice to sit on the benches outside in the shade whilst waiting for the bus. The owner also let us use their toilet.
I would not come out of my way to visit during dry season if passing then stop by. I would also recommend checking what the weather has been like before hand as if warm like today and the past few months it's not actually that impressive to see and your time can be better spent exploring elsewhere. There isn't anything else to do here other than visit the waterfall.
We had an early start and arrived at 8.40am. The next direct bus to Tallinn was not until 11.35am. There was a 10.07am which went in the right direction but we didn't realise this till later.
We visited the waterfall and spent some time walking around the local area due to our bus not coming till 11.35am but even then we still had an hour to wait until the bus.
Having seen the pictures when the waterfall is in full flow it looks very impressive and shame it wasn't like this on our trip.

If You go to the right side of the river and drive 3km down flow You can see water powerplant. Another 1km to go and there is one of the longest and certainly narrowest rope bridge. Both are free and easy accessible.

A nice but not spectacular waterfall. Maybe in spring after a lot of rain it will be more impressive. The third star is for the good path and stairs to the waterfall. There are also some benches with view of the waterfall.

This place is easily accessible from Tallinn. Either a 30-minute car ride or 40-minute bus ride.
We went here during winter and although it was already melting, some parts are still frozen and looked really beautiful. Be careful walking around though, it's a bit slippery.

We came here when the waterfall was fully frozen over and it was incredible! You could walk through behind the ice inside the waterfall and was such an experience. We’d say this and driving over an ice road were the two best things we did in Estonia!

How to reach the waterfall by public transport?
Written April 27, 2018
We went Sunday, Feb 3rd and here was our route
We took the green 151 bus from Tallinn (balti jaam) towards Loksa for 36 min/19 stops and transferred at Joelahtme (this is the one we missed and ended up walking) to the J1 green towards Neeme and get off at koogi for a 10 minute walk.
On the return, we exited the falls and walked back to koogi and caught the green J2 and ride it for 3 minutes/3 stops and transferred at Manisalu. There we caught the green 152 towards balti jaam.
The bus driver on the 152 was an ass. After we missed our stop, he looked up at us in the mirror and shrugged his shoulders. We were blessed to have the same driver on the way back to the city. Ugh. We purchased tickets on the website in an attempt to use the qr code system. It wasn't working and even though we purchased tickets, he shrugged his shoulders and made us pay cash. Shoulder shrugging with no care for others is his thing!
