I'm not a surfer so I wouldn't go into these waters. It's not for swimming as there are very dangerous under currents but most of the palapa bars have sunbeds/hammocks and showers to rinse off the extreme heat. There is a friendly surfer and old...More

Huge waves! Such an intimidating beach but beautiful. We arrived early in the afternoon and were told to wait until later in the evening to watch the surfers. We ate at a great restaurant on the beach with a bucket of Coronas. Such a great...More

We went to check out Zicatela Beach on a Saturday afternoon. Tourist season was winding down but it was still busy. There are tons of places to sit and just watch the awesome surf pound the beach, as well as bars and restaurants on the...More

Depending on the time of year you get between huge surf and monstrously frightening surf. There can be a killer (no pun intended) rip that will drag you out, down then beat you like few others. Complete washing machine. Not for the feint hearted. If...More

I just love what a wonderful beach and place this is. Lots of places to eat, the beach is utterly clean, at least when I was there and the area is pretty safe. I would love to give it a go once again.

Playa Zicatela is the Main Beach in Puerto Escondido. It is right next to all Bars, Clubs and Restaurants in Puerto Escondido.

On the day, Zicatela is on the common / not so pretty side. A long beach devoid of palms, with waves that need expert level (on most occasions) to swim. But on the evening / night is another thing! You can walk all El Morro...More

Absolutely crowded with beginner surfers throwing their longboards. Great if you can get there on a day when it's not so busy. Watch out for an aggressive instructor named Alejandro. He is known for his violent temper, pushing students into rocks and other surfers.

Playa Zicatella is just one beach of 4 in Puerto Escondido. It is the main surfing beach (mican pipeline) not a fishing beach. I have never seen any violence in Puerto Escondido and have been going there for over 20 years
