Explore the beach only if you are able-bodied. Walking on loose rocks is difficult for young/elderly. I looked and found a few plant fossils myself! Mel was a nice tour guide but I wanted MORE information which I knew she had. Go when it first...More

We did not take the guided tour and we do not feel we really missed anything. We walked along the cliff bases and found some interesting specimens. Any walk along the Bay Of Fundy while tides are moving is fascinating. Read all the placards on...More

It was an interesting "walk back in time." The tour guide was enthusiastic about her topic and that was contagious. Glad we did it.

Amazing site. It would be better with a few more signs explaining what you are looking at if you don't go with a guide. Fairly new building and amenities that they seem to be trying to pay for very quickly... Very neat if you have...More

Our guide was excellent, from the area, his Dad was a coal miner in Joggins. There are quite a few steps to the beach and dress warmly, the morning we were there it was quite chilly.

Not a big science junkie but I do appreciate the significance of this site. This was the first place on earth that animals adapted from sea to land and able to walk and live on land. In the world....pretty crazy. But when you go there,...More

It is overwhelming to think that you can pick up a rock on a beach and know that it is about 300 million years old! The fossil cliffs and beach are so fascinating that I was in awe. This is a must-see in Nova Scotia,...More

Permits are for research purposes only not for tourists to collects fossils. Permits are issued by the Province of Nova Scotia not by the Joggins centre.

A good 2 hours drive. They are almost directly across Bay of Fundy and Chignecto Bay from each other.

sorry, I just got this question. I haven't signed into Tripadvisor for a long time. I would totally skip the tour and just peruse the building. then go onto the beach yourself and walk around. Watch the tide, it comes in so... More
