I believe there are only six scientisst who live full-time on the island. Others are not allowed to land so we went on zodiacs around the coast. It is full of birds, seals and penguins. It is green and lush with waterfalls. Absolutely beautiful.

Rarely visited other than by the South Africans manning the weather station, it can be hard to land on Gough. But a boat or zodiac tour around the island shows terrific scenery and lots of birds--so many that it is a world heritage site.
