During winter, the gondola ride going down is free! A good way to spend a couple hours is to hike up the mountain, then enjoy the well-earned free ride back. Right next to the Banff Hotsprings parking lot, there is a trail going up and...More

Take the short gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain and you will find a 4-story building (3 inside floors plus a rooftop viewing area) which is worth a visit. The views from there are absolutely spectacular on a clear day. Our group of...More

I had many experiences with Sulphur Mountain gondola as I worked at Banff Springs Hotel yet the best experience was when a co worker and myself climbed Sulphur Mountain in early May which took us 7 hours .

The $49.00 cost per person for the gondola ride was worth it. The view from the top and the walk once there was terrific.

We saw a few hikers, but the 4 seat gondola ride is easy and popular. There are new observation platforms, interpretive exhibits and other facilities at the top. A spectacular view from 7000 feet might as well be from the top of the world. The...More

I went on the hike in the winter and there was lots of snow! I didn't have proper hiking stuff for winter but I was still able to climb this without any special boots. Make sure you have boots with grips though to keep you...More

Superb views on the gondola ride and from the top of the mountain. $50 for the gondola ride is expensive but there is a $65 deal that includes a gondola ride and two course dinner in the restaurant which is good value. The deal is...More

The cable car or gondola ride to the top is quite steep and exciting giving progressively wider views of the Banff area. At the top you step off at the cafe/ gift shop and out onto a 2 km board walk across the mountain to...More

We visited Sulphur Mountain in September 2016 and somehow I forgot to post my review until Trip Advisor prompted me very recently. Along with Niagra Falls this was the highlight of our 16 days in Canada - it was so much more than we ever...More

No. But I guess you could sit on one of the benches outside and eat!
Is there a way to purchase a gondola ride down if we choose to hike up? Or, would we have to pay the full, round-trip price? We will be in the park early July 2017.

Absolutely, you can buy one way down no problem. Can't remember the cost and take about 9 minutes with an option of a picture purchase, or essential and no hassle. Enjoy

Is there any other way to get up to the Sulphur Mountain viewing deck while the gondola is down for maintenance? So devastated, this was what we've been looking to for our whole trip after visiting in 2015.

Sure, but this is a high altitude site, and you had better be vigorously fit to do so!
