This was our first time at Johnston Canyon and I can't believe we didn't do this sooner. We did the hike on our own. We only got to the Lower Falls and had to go back because of time restrictions. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! It's a must do. We will be doing it again - the whole way this time.

We did the trail in the winter and really enjoyed it. Nice walk, great views, probably the best to do in winter after skiing.

My friend and I came here as she recommended it as her family getaway spot when she would travel in the mountains as a child. She continues to bring people here but has never gone to Upper Falls in the winter. The Lower Falls freeze over a bit. They travel pretty fast so never fully freezes. There is a pending... More

It takes around 1-2 hours to hike to the lower falls and another 30 mins to upper falls. Access to canyon is open year round. In winter you need to watch out for icy slippery sections. The canyon has steep rocky walls and cascading stream of cold water which in winter is covered by ice and snow. The falls are... More

You have to come in the winter when there are less people and the views are amazing. Get in early (before 9AM) and you'll have the best parking spot and take pictures without the crowds. Make sure to have spikes as it's slippery in some areas. It's so worth it!

We went for the icewalk in March and it was spectacular. The waterfalls frozen is a very special sight and it is just an absolutely beautiful hike up there. Very easy hike, but if you go in the winter, make sure to wear cleats as it gets slippery on the trails.

This is a pretty scenic place for a hike. The path follows the canyon up to the water falls. Numerous catwalks that are over the river. The path can be very icy/slippery in the winter. Lots of great opportunities for pictures of ice scapes. It can be a very busy place in the summer.

Arrive at Johnston Canyon when the trail opens, and you'll be able to complete the loop between the first set of waterfalls and the parking lot in less than an hour and a half. Otherwise, due to the crowd size, it can take a while to explore on the lowest level. You'll also avoid the line that forms in order... More

Its a short hike to the lower and upper falls with a little elevation. The hike itself was excellent with stunning views. It is a bit crowded during the summer.

Our guide was called Norm and he was brilliant. He was very knowledgeable and put us at ease straight away with his humour. We were given ice cleats and a pole to use which I was very grateful for. I am not the fittest person and I did find parts of this walk hard, some parts are steep but it... More
