The hike up to the inkpots first takes you through the beautiful Johnston canyon. At the upper falls you will bear left and leave the crowds behind to start your ascent up to the inkpots. After a fairly grueling uphill climb the trail levels out...More

We had read/heard that the ink pots past the upper falls were questionable if it was worth the lengthy hike. It took 50 minutes past the upper falls (and I'm not very fast) and was ABSOLUTELY worth it. No one was there at around 10:00am...More

To get to the ink pots you must start at the Johnston canyon entrance and with that comes bus loads of tourists, kids, and non hikers. The length and difficulty of this hike generally weeds out 70 % of the Johnston cayon mob. If you...More

The Ink pots are like nothing else I've ever seen in my life and well worth the hike up to them. I would recommend you go first thing in the morning and the water is the most delicious water I've ever tasted.

We were squeezing in too much in one day before leaving for the airport the next day. Started with a Glacier Tour and I was told this was a must. So, we arrived at the base of this place somewhere in the last evening. I...More

We snowshoed up from Moose Meadows, about 6 km each way. Quiet little valley up in the mountains, and the inkpots are a peaceful little spot to stop for lunch and some scenery.

I surprised myself on this hike because I normally enjoy the seclusion and quietness of the outdoors and don't enjoy running into too many people. However, I loved meeting the other hikers, joking around with them and especially getting to spend time with Canadians! They...More

This was a good workout to the Ink Pots! Make sure you have spikes on your boots or you will have a hard time coming back. Almost all uphill to the end of the trail, then a little hike down(this is tough on the way...More

We had never done a hike before and I figured this one would be good because if we couldn't make it to the ink pots, at least we will see the lower and upper falls. We went on a Tuesday at noon and it was...More

I recommend bringing hiking shoes and water/a backpack. The hike requires a lot of uphill but the inkpots at the end are totally worth it. The colours are stunning and they are nestled a valley. Absolutely beautiful.

Sounds like you are well prepared. Having a pair of gloves and toque or head band in your back pack wouldn't hurt. In September you need to be prepared for all types of weather. Yesterday we hiked Sunshine Meadows and it... More
