- gsgman777Columbia, Illinois706 contributionsIcy Awesome - right off the roadAlong the Icefields Parkway drive from Banff to Jasper is this beautiful lake. You can stop right off the road and take it all in. We were there towards the end of May and there was still a lot of ice all over in the lake.Visited May 2023Written June 6, 2023
- SimonHutchinsReading, United Kingdom197 contributionsThe best lake for photographs in the Candian RockiesThis was an unexpected highlight. I'd never heard of this lake until we were passing the viewpoint on the way to Jasper. Quite simply, this provided the best photographs of any lake visited. And that includes Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Stunning views an reflections - make sure to stop.Visited July 2023Written July 26, 2023
- JobylakeOttery St. Mary, United Kingdom937 contributionsIf you can, visit on different days at different times with different weather - the view will be differentLocated by the side of the road, this is a large lake which attracts a lot of people. Parking is easy to find as traffic movement is high and frequent. We visited the lake twice – the first visit was on route back from Peyto Lake to Lake Louise at around 11.45am. The weather was sun and cloud. The lake was a lovely turquoise-blue colour. Our second visit was travelling from Lake Louise to Jasper at 9.15am. The weather was full sun and the lake was mirror. If you can visit the lake at different times of the day, you will be greeted with completely different views.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten August 9, 2023
- tinaNtravelSan Jose, California1,883 contributionsBeautiful and worth a stopWe were on a tour bus that stopped in the parking lot near Bow Lake. We got out and walked a short distance to the lake. It was, of course, beautiful. There is a bright red roofed building near the lake side, which was quite pretty as well – especially surrounded by all the greenery and the amazing views.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 10, 2023

Rated poor only because you will see many more scenic or interesting (from a geologic or glacial perspective) sights along the road. Right along the Ice Parkway so easy to see, and the trail from the parking lot is very short. Nothing particularly noteworthy. Restrooms, gift shop and snacks if you want to schedule a break.

Beautiful scenery and majestic mountains!
The wonderful colour reflected off the sun was beautiful. Come early, tour buses and crowded sometimes.
There's a roadside view that you can pull over and take it all in!

It is quite a nice lake actually but the sun and weather had to be cooperative to get a wonderful picture.
But the shoreline is a great walk and very beautiful. Can get very busy on a nice day.

Great for a quick stop on the way from Calgary to Jasper, just pull up on the Icefields Parkway and take in the beautiful view. The water is so blue on a sunny day.

This lake is just off the highway and it will take half an hour to a couple of hour, depend on how far you want to walk. It was beautiful relatively easy walk. Path is alongside of the lake and lead up to glacier incoming stream. I had only 3/4 of hour, so I could not walk to the glacier stream, but nevertheless it was beautiful very pleasant walk. Highly recommended. 👍💖

How quickly does the parking lot at bow lake fill up?
TalalZ
Mableton, GA403 contributions
Directly on Icefields Parkway there is a stop with small parking area overlooking Bow Lake. Shortly thereafter on left hand coming from Banff is a road to Simpson’s Num-Ti-Jah Lodge with Bow Lake Car lot on it. There are toilets and benches. People also park on both sides of the road. You cal walk from parking lot directly to the lake or walk to lodge area where there is also a viewing platform on the lake.
Though parking areas could be busy early people do not stay long and move on. Waiting time should be short.

Where exactly is the picnic area? Is it a separate stop from the lake? Is it at the North end or past the north end of the lake or anywhere close to Num-ti-Jah Lodge?

The picnic area is at the lake but about 1km South from the turn off to drive into Num Ti Jah Lodge. That Lodge is the log building with the red roof.
