I was up early picked up a Starbucks and went for a gorgeous drive on a beautiful sunny morning . Just toured around and hung out at the look outs and fell in love with the area . Beautiful turquoise water and sunlit mountains ! Go early before the tour buses show up if you have a car !

A 10 minute drive takes you from Banff Ave shopping to your basic Banff. The Rockies surrounding deep blue water and deep green forests. Check out the hiking trails and bring a picnic lunch. Scuba diving very popular once the ice melts and temperatures improve.

Although we are in spring the lake hasn't yet melted - having said that, it's well worth a drive around and then a hike. Lovely setting, I would imagine in summer a must visit

Lake Minnewanka is a scenic attraction that is breathtaking and majestic. The Lake stretches as far as the eye can see and continues on another 2 bends. It is one of the deepest and coldest lakes. Weather is unpredictable in the mountains and it is no different at Lake Minnewanka. Dress in layers and come prepared for strong winds that... More

Hi Andy C, thanks for the review. Loosely translated, "Minnewanka" means "lake of the water spirit" a Stoney Nakoda word that can be tied back to the sudden storms in the area hundreds of years ago. Today we are much more equipped to handle the weather we can encounter from time to time, but I agree, staying close to shore... More

The view was very overwhelming. Natural beauty of very clear blue and green water makes you wanna jump and play. The water is ice cold even it's summer and thou its vety inviting for a swim, I don't think you will last to stay in the water for 5 mins. It's a fun place to have a picnic for lunch.... More

Beautiful, quiet with breathtaking scenery. It was totally frozen over and looked magical. Hire some crampons for your shoes before you go if you want to walk around as it's pretty slippy!,

It's not the most gorgeous of the lakes that you are going to see in the Canadian Rockies. It's one of the largest, and there is the boat tour (but the Maligne Lake boat tour is more scenic), and the opportunity to go fishing, but it lacks that beautiful blue colour that you'll see in the glacial lakes like Lake... Hi Skislikeagirl, thanks for this great review and thank you for stopping by. Glad you and your rug rats enjoyed the time at the Lake, speaking from experience with my kids, time on the shoreline is always time well spent. Hope to see you again. Travis Mann Manager, Banff Lake Cruise More

Frozen when we were there in March 2013, and my cousin drove us here, walked around took some beautiful photos and even saw someone having their wedding photos taken, what a backdrop.

Visited the day after a trip to Lake Louise and found Minnewanka to be just as beautiful and awe inspiring, if not even more so! The frozen lakes and snow covered mountains were unbelievably and breathtakingly beautiful. There, you really get in touch with nature. There is very little human impact in this area only a few minutes drive from... More

Hi Wally B, thanks for visiting and posting this great review. Lake Louise and Lake Minnewanka are both stunning in so many ways. I'm glad you found a connection with the area. I agree with you, so much of Minnewanka is untouched and a great display of nature. Hope you can make it back to visit soon. Travis Mann More
