In winter, the roads are kept open very nicely, providing excellent access to this delightful bit of wilderness just outside of Banff townsite. In the summer, there are trails for walking or cycling, and of course, the lakes are great for canoeing. In the winter, while the lakes do freeze over, I would be cautious about exploring to far on... More

Definitley recommend a visit down to the Vermillion Lakes if you're visiting Banff. You can easily walk from town or drive. Amazing views of all the lakes as you walk down. Also, perfect place to watch the stars.

We visited the lakes after the cold spell and as it was completely frozen we walked right across it and got some great photos. Worth a visit if the weather is nice!

We walked into town, picked up some rental skates (much comfier than uk hire boots) and then walked to the lakes. Once we got there it's as simple as change boots and away you go. Some kind locals had cleared a patch to skate on. Great fun for anyone.

Banff National Park is just so beautiful that this place does not have the matching chops to play with the big kids. On its own it is really a lovely place, and being so close to the town of Banff you can feel quite alone out here....which is nice sometimes!! But only come here f you have tons of time....Banff... This series of three lakes are the place to go to take the iconic picture of Mount Rundle. Since people have been visiting the area this has been an enduring image, whether painted or photographed. You can take the Fenland trail to access the lakes as an added feature. Recent enhancements by Parks Canada( benches, bike racks and signage) encourage... More

We stopped here and watched as a man skated around clearing the snow off the ice. He didn't disappear below the ice so we enjoyed a walk around the ice. Good spot to take some photos of th snow capped mountains.

Me, my boyfriend and my friend have even up there a few times on the canoes from the Banff Canoe Club and it is truly awesome. As you were making your way there you could stop off an view the beavers, although I think they have relocated now due to a storm. The wind is very harsh on the lake... More

Completely calm, shallow waters make this a great spot for a quick outing in a kayak or canoe. Gret for beginners or anyone who likes glassy-calm water and great scenery. A bit of noise from the nearby highway, but not enough to spoil it.

Went just after sunrise. Was cloudy so photos were average. Nice lakes and landscape view. Doesn't compare much to other areas of Banff but it's good for a short stop over
