It reminded us of Aspen, CO and a few other main street towns that appeal to the tourist trade. At the same time, it is very well maintained and just full of streetside shops of various appeal to both locals and tourists. On our visit, the weather was again perfectly brisk, bright, and very walkable. Most of this street is now designed to minimize or completely eliminate vehicle traffic (except for public transport). If you're taking public transport, it is a little tricky to figure out which one to get one and off. Make sure you understand beforehand how to navigate this aspect. Otherwise, enjoy the walk down Banff Avenue and make sure to also walk the various cross streets. It's very walkable.Visited October 2022Written January 29, 2023
- KelvinDunedin, New Zealand574 contributionsGreat locationThis was actually a nice walk with plenty of distractions as you walked along. We had a hotel about 10 minutes down the road so maximised our time in town and explored as much as possible. The avenue is really well set up for pedestrians and is a welcoming and safe area. We were able to stand in the centre strip and get some great shots, despite it being early evening……Visited May 2023Written June 25, 2023

Not too crowded at this time of year. Lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the sun with a drink or snack. Not too much traffic so safe for families. Really enjoyed our stay in Banff. Hope to come back some day.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten June 29, 2023
- TennisStar602New Jersey612 contributionsI wanted to explore Banff Town in addition to Banff National Park.Banff Avenue was the major drag in Banff Town. It was not easy to find parking in Banff as many areas were reserved for residents only, but the side streets provided some free parking. There were also many lavish hotels. I saw many expensive stores, gift shops, and restaurants. I even was able to visit a bank and a supermarket for some quick transactions. The views of the mountains were great.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten July 13, 2023

- MDToronto, Canada15 contributionsAmazing full-day visitAlthough it was a bit crowded (as expected) it's truly a must-see spot full of great eating and shopping options. A bit hard to find a parking spot but as long as you come in the morning, maybe even around 10 AM, it should be possible to find one. There are great recreational options as well such as water sports and other rentals. Overall definitely recommended for a full-day visit!Visited August 2023Written August 26, 2023

Many of the shops have reasonably priced small items, but there are some higher end shops as well like Roots & LuluVisited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten September 10, 2023

Just about every place on the main street is either a souvenir shop, a restaurant, a bakery or an ice cream shop. Now and then we saw some street performers. The evenings are quite crowded with everyone out and about for dinner. All in all, in spite of the crowds, it had an overall quaint feel.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 10, 2023

This is a nice upscale part of town. Lots of shops and places to eat. It was pretty crowded. And the views of the mountains are absolutely amazing.

Visited about 15:00 on a weekday after a day of hiking and sightseeing. Massively crowded with cars and people. We were fortunate to find a spot in a pay for parking lot as some one was leaving. While there are some high end stores and restaurants most of the establishments appear to be schlock shops aimed at tourists and touristy restaurants. Throngs of tourists mobbed the streets, lots of kids running around (likely on sugar highs). The views down the avenue and streets towards the mountains was kind of cool, but not worth the touristy aggravation. We stayed just a little over an hour and went back to the Icefields pkwy to check out some lookouts.

Really great restaurants and shopping. Really not your quintessential ski town. Seems that everyone takes pride in their environment

How is the smoke level in the Banff/Lake Louise area? We're coming from southern BC where the mountains are nearly obscured by the dense smoke.

Depends on the wind. When we were there, no smoke in Banff, although the mountains were obscured.

Is there a campsite that is close enough to Banff Ave to walk to? We're camping there this summer and would love to be able to walk to dinner and have a couple drinks! Thanks
