This is a great ride

We rented some cruiser bikes and went a few miles (they measure in kilometers there). It is a wide, safe trail with a lot of bicycle traffic.

We did this as a family ( 3 kids aged 14, 12 and 9). The route is a Tarmac all the way so easy to cycle on. There is an interesting bit in the middle that is more undulating and through the trees. However the several km coming out of or into Canmore or Banff is long and flat and... More

This is a MUST do when you come to Banff. Challenge yourself to go all the way to Canmore and back. Then you are a real warrior!

First of all avoid showing up mid day on a sunny summer Saturday as you'll need to stalk returning cyclists to find a parking spot, which we did. Parking attendants patrol the Canmore lot and they do leave a ticket if you're not in a legitimate spot as evidenced by the $52.50 ticket we took a peek at when contemplating... More

First time doing this trail and it was great. Driving into Banff or into Canmore, I always thought it would be nice to try the trail. It was not as hard as I thought it might be and there were a wide range of users from the daily riders to those just taking a leisurely stroll. There were lots of... More

Great way to spend my 59th birthday. 1 1/2 hours to Banff. Lunch at Earls. Then 1 hour back. Definitely more downhill back to Canmore. Hard time on a few hills with my 5 speed. Saw little guys with 1 speed having trouble. Dad carrying bike with little guy walking. Maybe too far for youngsters. A few signs warning of... More

My family and I (kids ages 12, 10 and 8) rode the trail from Canmore to Banff. It was an easy ride with a few rolling hills but nothing hard. It's VERY scenic but also right next to the highway. So while the views of beautiful, the noise of the highway is also right there. My kids thought it was... More

Again with a friend that always wanted to do this ride so hey, I'm game. It was about an hour and a half ride there and back for the not daily rider types like us. We were passed many times but we made it so not bad for two 56 year old women. Remember those gel seat covers and bike... More

Having been avid users of the path systems in Calgary, we were looking forward to giving the Legacy Trail a try. Within a few minutes on the path we were sandwiched between roaring vehicle traffic and a screeching train. The path itself is well paved, signage is good, and there is a stopping point almost halfway through. There were many... More

We have used this trail many times since it opened. Despite being by the highway for parts of it, it's a nice ride to Banff or Canmore where you can stop for a snack or meal and then ride back.
