This horse riding experience was above and beyond! A gorgeous 1 hour trek on gentle, lovely horses was perfect for my sons and I. Our guide Sarah was incredible with my kids, one a little nervous as he's not a rider, and she was so friendly, so reassuring, was full of information about the local area and was generally brilliant! I 100% recommend this ride and this company.

The horses are all lovely and the scenery is beautiful. Very much for beginners. Just a very gentle plod round a loop. So if you can already ride its very sedate and relaxed. Lovely if you just want to take in the scenery.
The guides are all friendly and put up with people not listening to instruction which as you could imagine would be frustrating. Overall a lovely relaxing ride.

The absolute best trail ride I have been on! Horses were well cared for, and well trained. The guides paid attention to everyone to help us handle our horses correctly, and make sure we were all doing ok, all while being friendly and entertaining. The views from the backside of the Fairmont through the trees was beautiful, as well as the trail along the golf course and the river. Would definitely recommend.

My friends and I booked the 2-hour Sundance Loop. We didn’t have any issues with check-in or initially with the safety briefing. I’ve done horseback riding on many other trips so it all seemed standard. The guide was also informative and cheerful.

The ride experience and the trail itself left a lot to be desired.

Although many horses seemed over worked / tired, my horse seemed fine most of the time (except that I needed to stop him from eating every other minute which was a handful). However, at the end of the ride when we were lining up to dismount, the horse behind mine was very agitated and spooked mine a few times, causing my horse to suddenly speed out of the line, which gave me a fright. The wranglers weren’t helpful in the situation and kept bringing my horse back in line in front of the other one (who seemed to have been very over it for the day at 5pm). Because of the horse behind us, my horse moved closer to the horse in front of us, and that agitated the horses all over again. By the third time this happened, I wanted OFF because I thought I could have been thrown off any second. Maybe this would never have happened, but the safety briefing didn’t address how to handle this situation at all, so I was extremely nervous. Instead of doing anything about it (like moving the horses away from each other or letting me dismount first), the wranglers just told me off for not managing the situation better. They then continued dismounting others / took pictures for the person on the horse behind me. Because of this, I left the experience with a bad taste.

The guide mentioned there’s 300+ horses at the stables (ranch?), which might explain why they don’t know how their horses’ quirks (and explain them to the rider). At other experiences I’ve had, the handlers knew exactly which horse could be around which. And they knew what actions might irritate each horse.

Besides that, as other reviewers have mentioned, the trail is only partially scenic. For a horse riding experience in Banff of all places, you’d think the whole trail would be spectacular. But a lot of it was in dense forest or awkwardly next to a paved walking / bike path.

Maybe this would be worth it if it was your first time horseback riding, but if not, save your money for future rides!!

Hi Holly, Thank you for taking the time to review. Our trail rides are designed for riders of all abilities to be able to enjoy and take in the views of nature. Although we do have many horses, our wranglers are familiar with all of them. Our horses are all rescues and are given plenty of days off and rest between tours so they are not over worked. We try to pair our hoses as best we can to match the rider and the other horses on the trial. We're sorry to hear about your dismount experience but hope you enjoyed the rest of your ride and stay in Banff!

We had a great ride today.😃 I had never been on a horse before and the team really put me at ease. The trail was lovely with some beautiful views of Bow River and the mountains. The beautiful sunshine made for a perfect ride. A big thank you to all the team and especially to Blue who was the perfect horse for me. I would highly recommend this ride - especially if you have never been on a horse before.

My wife and I signed up for the 2 hour ride. This location is actually fairly close to the overall downtown area and within walking distance.

I admit I wasn't a big fan of having to wear a helmet (most places it's optional), but considering some of the terrain, I can understand.

They lead you out along a public walking / biking path. The views along the river are really amazing. I'm not going to lie and not say I wasn't initially disappointed by the first of the trip.

NOTE: If you're not an experienced rider or this is your first time, possibly consider the 1 hour ride as this path setting is the majority if the 1st half of the ride.

Once we got past the 1 hour "turn around" spot, we moved on to more challenging terrain. It was uphill quite a bit of the way. While going through the woods I heard what sounded like a bull elk calling. We also strolled past some elk laying around in the woods.

We finished with a downhill decent and then down along the river again as we headed back to the stable.

Our 2 guides (Andre' and I forget the other guy) were both very nice and informative.

Hello Michael, Thank you for taking the time to review. Safety is always of most importance to us, especially since our trail rides are suitable for beginners and families. This means helmets will always be mandatory. Banff truly is beautiful and being on horseback provides a different view. Although seeing wildlife is never guaranteed, it is very cool that you got to see Elk! Wildlife is often spotted along the trail such as deer, elk and a variety of birds.

Fantastic trip into Sundance with my 10 year old. Lovely staff, great food but the quality of horses and spectacular lodge stole the show.
Cant recommend enough.
Can call it a “once in a lifetime” when you know you will be back ;)

We had such fun on this ride! The staff were wonderful, our guide made the horseback ride so enjoyable. Second week in September, we were prepared with bug spray but… no bugs! We finished the ride with a delicious home cooked steak dinner in the big red barn which was charming inside! They greeted us there with hot chocolate, coffee, tea, sodas etc. The views on this ride were incredibly beautiful! We were all weighed on arrival (even our 90 lb daughter) to match us with a horse, so that should be expected. You can’t carry any kind of pack on the horses, but we had our cell phone on a lanyard so that was fine. We received updates daily as our arrival date approached, so we were kept well informed. Overall a wonderful experience! Highly recommend!
