We were picked up at 6am for our sunrise photo shoot. Mark was able to spend time going over the skills that we had and suggested ways we could improve including composition and balancing light and dark within the photo. Our shoot was at Two...More
Mark was an amazing patient and observant teacher, who was able to crystallize some key concepts in an easy to learn and understand fashion. His step-wise approach takes a lot of the intimidation factor out of getting fantastic photos, no matter what phone or camera...More
Mark Unrau is a very knowlegeable and enthusiastic professional photographer based in Banff. On a morning shoot, we visited two impressive locations - one mountain lake vista at sunrise, and a second beautiful waterfall location under glorious early fall morning light. My objective was to...More
My husband (who helped carry my equipment) and I arrived at Two Jack Lake, Banff at 4:45 in the morning. Mark would have picked us up at our hotel in Canmore, but we had other things we wanted to do that day. When we got...More
We enjoyed our photography lesson this morning, but, honestly, unless you are really interested in landscape photography, this is not for you. We wouldn't do it again, because landscape photography isn't 'us' but we highly recommend it to people who want to learn landscape photography....More

Thanks for your review and being honest! Sometimes we work with online travel agencies who may not explain thoroughly what the experience is all about. This is a good reminder to make sure they fully understand what kind of experience they are selling. I already...More
Mark picked me up at 5:30 am for our sunrise photo shoot. The weather didn’t co-operate, so with Mark’s flexibility we hiked in Johnston Canyon to the Upper Falls for my photo shoot. Mark taught me so much about photography, landscapes, composition etc. that I...More

Thanks Anirta! I'm glad that the PDF helped to remember all the stuff we went over during the session!
I hope to see you again in the future on a better weather day :)
I went out with Mark last week and it was some of the best five hours I've ever had. Mark picked me up at 4:15am and we went to Two Jack Lake for sunrise. When we got there he set up my camera and then...More

Thank you so much for the incredible review! I'm so glad to hear that you appreciated my teaching style and that you learned and got some great shots during our session!
Feel free to post some images! Would love to see the final results!
I wanted to spend some time photographing the beautiful Banff mountains and came across Mark’s website. He contacted me immediately after I filled out the online request. He was very flexible with the date as well as locations. On the day of the workshop, he...More
I had a great, productive five-hour session with Mark. I consider myself an "accomplished amateur", and Mark quickly assessed the areas in which he could provide the most help. I was more interested in learning process and workflow than in taking any specific shots, and...More
Mark picked me up at about 0400. The weather was poor with rain showers on and off. Mark took me to his "backup" location - a waterfall not often visited by the public. We hiked a mile or so up river to a secluded area...More

Sorry for such a late reply! I was away on a shoot and this message slipped through the cracks. For weather it depends. This year is a late winter so there is a chance that Moraine Lake may still have snow. Everywhere else should be fine. There are not many colours throughout the summer as it is mostly spruce and pine trees here. The best time for colour would be in and around the first couple weeks of September where the aspens turn yellow and the larch trees turn. Hope this helps!
