Joel is a fabulous guide and brilliant ambassador for the region. We had a splendid, profoundly informative adventure on snowshoes replete with epicurean tea and snacks. We have snowshoed all over the world. The time with Joel was genuinely top of world class.

Excellent hike to my abilities. Joel is a wealth of information. He led us on a wonderful hike at Lake O'Hara, and showed us things I would have never noticed on my own. Saw a bears den, bear footprints. Learned lots about picas and marmot. Joel also has a great sense of humor.

I highly recommend Joel if you are looking for a guide while hiking in the Moraine Lake/Lake Louise area. We just used him while we were there. He knows where to go, when to go, and is a great "teacher" while he is guiding you through these beautiful places. He also gave us super ideas of where to go for the final few days we were in the area.

Thanks, D. I'm happy you enjoyed our hike at Moraine Lake. It's a tricky place to access, so I'm pleased we got to enjoy it together. Go Blues!

Thanks, Joanne and Nathalie. I really enjoyed our time on the trail, especially at the Opabin Prospect, and when the mountain goat put in an appearance. Lake O'Hara magic!

My husband and I as well as our three young adult children went on a day-long hike with Joel and all five of us agree that it is the absolute best thing we did during our two weeks in the Canadian Rockies. Joel is a gracious, welcoming, thoroughly prepared, knowledgeable, considerate guide who is passionate about the outdoors and teaching and connecting with others.

It was apparent from even before our arrival that Joel is completely thorough. The guide that he sent to prepare us for our time together was the single best piece of information that I came across before our trip. Joel asked us to fill out information on each person in our group - abilities, general health constraints, hopes and goals for the hike, so he could better choose where to take us on the day of the guided hike. And he picked amazingly, because the hike was just challenging enough to be fun, and it took us to a beautiful location.

On the day of the hike before we set out, Joel explained rules for safety, some hiking etiquette, and showed us that he was carrying in his pack a number of first aid implements and other things that we might need for comfort and safety. He even packed hard candies in case my children (who have diabetes) had a low blood sugar! He loaned me some walking sticks that really added to my enjoyment of the hike. While we were walking, he was attentive to each of us, spending some time in conversation with each person, and checking in to make sure we were doing OK as we hiked.

We saw gorgeous streams and rivers, an alpine meadow, so many plants, some interesting insects. Joel’s explanations were fascinating. There seemed to be nothing he did not know about, whether plants, animals, lichen and moss, tracks, weather, even Taylor Swift songs! It seemed that whatever any of us were interested in, he could answer questions on that topic and tell us things we had not known before.

Joel’s depth of experience in the area really came in handy as he considered the weather possibilities. I had been concerned about the weather forecast I had heard but Joel told me that based on what he was seeing, and a number of sources that he had looked into, he did not believe that any weather problems would materialize, and he was right.

At the end of the hike, Joel promised to send us information on a couple of things we had been talking about throughout the day, as well as some pictures he had taken of a particular plant. Within 24 hours he had followed up by email just as promised. All in all, Joel helped us create amazing memories of a wonderful day that was our best in the Canadian Rockies. I could not possibly recommend Joel and Great Divide Nature Interpretation more highly!

L, thank you so much for this really thorough review. You talked about a lot of things that aren't always mentioned in reviews of my guided hikes, like all the service I provide before and after the trips, as well as my focus on safety and preparation. I really appreciate your attention to detail, but mostly I'm just really happy that the trip was a highlight for you! That's great to hear, as it is always what I'm hoping to achieve.

Nadine and I went snowshoeing with Joel on Saturday, April 2. Our adventure was absolutely fantastic. Great weather, beautiful scenery, and Joel was bubbling with information and props to help with our understanding of the area, the wildlife, and the terrain. Extremely well done.

Thank you, Robert. Not sure I've ever been characterized as someone "bubbling with information," but I love that description!

Thanks, Mark. I think your hockey praise is misplaced, but I'll take the compliment about being a good guide! It was a pleasure to take out the team.

There was 3 of us in a group of 8. Joel (guide) met us exactly at 11am as he said he would, got the paperwork out of the way and we convoyed in our own vehicles together to the starting point. We were in the Bow Lake area. He supplied the snowshoes, poles, gators, glove warmers and feet warmers (not needed though as it was a stunning day). He gives his instructions and off we went.

With minutes we came across Lynx tracks, which was quite a rarity to see. We also came across other wildlife tracks and he enthusiastically explained the who’s who complete with a picture binder. We saw glaciers and he explained the history behind them. About 2hrs in we stopped for a hot beverage and snack break. He made his famous Rocky Mountain power bars and also whipped up some Vegan cookies for us. Say what? Awesome! Not to mention he brought both hot chocolate (not vegan) and roobis vanilla tea for us (vegan). This guy was on it.

The scenery was breath taking. Even for us locals. It was a jaw dropping, picture snapping at every corner. The snow was over 5ft deep in some areas and we made first tracks most of the way.

To top it all off, Joel donated ALL of his proceeds for that weekend to the humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Unbelievably amazing! On a normal day, he donates partial proceeds to local conservation efforts.

The guide, the scenery and the education he provided was top notch. Hands down the best guided tour we’ve been on in the last few years. Definitely will be rebooking in the summer for some mountain hikes.

Thanks again Joel, our expectations have been far far exceeded. See you this summer!

Thanks, Scott, for such a positive review. You touched on a lot of the things I try to do to make sure my guests have a top notch experience. Thank you for noticing, and I'm really pleased that the trip went well for the three of you. And as you said, "see you this summer!"
