I tried to find this delightful shop earlier today and missed it so took my husband later in the day to try again! Very hard to spot but well worth the search!
Colourful trays of the most delicate, artistic chocolates that really look too good to eat! Very friendly, helpful server.
Fantastic flavour combinations, something for everyone. Great dinosaur lollies for Christmas!
Definitely a place to visit if you love chocolate!

Whenever we visit a city for the first time, we search out what is supposedly the best most legendary chocolate. The Chocolate Lab is one of the best shops we’ve been to, world-wide. No wonder they’ve won international awards. Every single piece of gorgeous confectionary art is mouthwatering and delicious. The flavor blends are surprising and creative. These chocolates are not just beautiful to look at, they are actual art in your mouth. One box of sixteen cost around $38.00 in 2019. I consider that chump change for the value. The Chocolate Lab isn’t just chocolate, it’s an experience.

I was first made aware of Calgary’s renowned Chocolate Lab thanks to a recent article in Chatelaine, which profiled the “10 best chocolate shops in Canada.” On that impressive list, The Chocolate Lab stood tall at the number one spot. Looking into it a bit further, I learned that this shop, which opened in 2016, has gone on to win the International Chocolate Awards consistently since 2016, among numerous other accolades. Thus, I made it a point to visit this noteworthy shop on a recent excursion into YYC.

The first thing I will say is that the Chocolate Lab is pretty easy to miss. It’s a fairly small shop, tucked away in a small corner at the end of Chinatown. In fact, I ended up trekking right past it and had to turn around because I missed the small, non-descript sign. Additionally, while this did not affect me, I should point out that because the Chocolate Lab is kind of along a narrow alleyway, there is no parking directly in front, so you will have to park off-site if you have a vehicle. But once inside the shop, you are immediately hit with a chocolate lovers dream and can see (and smell) what all the fuss is about!

The shop is tastefully arranged, with all of the eye-catching chocolates in clear view. The fresh chocolate bonbon case is undoubtedly the centrepiece and features in excess of 100 colours in a plethora of enticing shapes, designs and flavours – all of which are hand-made and literal works of art in their appearance and construction. Indeed, you almost hesitate to eat them exactly because they’re so pleasing to the eye, but once you do bite into one of these delectable little morsels, you’ll find it hard to stop: They’re as tasty as they look and each of the unique flavours speaks to, and complements, the chocolate in the most attractive way and manner. Art and chocolate come together in a beautiful gestalt.

FOOD: 5/5
SERVICE: 5/5
VALUE: 5/5
RECOMMENDATION: All I can say about this place is “wow!” They’ve succeeded in bringing chocolate to a whole new level – one that is both luxurious and adventurous yet allows us to feed our souls and those around us with chocolate and all that it may imply. If you’re visiting Calgary, I cannot recommend this little shop enough. Just be prepared to spend a bit of money . . . ;)

I cannot express how fabulous this place is with the "mostest", "bestest" chocolate that I have ever seen in my life. Words can not say what a wonderful delight this is...only the palette. I would love to have one of these in New York, Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles. Run don't walk!

Discovering the Chocolate Lab on Center Street, in Calgary's Chinatown, is a wonderful surprise. The flavors, the varieties of chocolate and the decoration on each makes these candies a work of art. Your taste buds will awaken to exotic flavors and the deep, rich chocolate is simply superb. The servers are knowledgeable about each chocolate and are willing to help you with selections. The shop is spotlessly clean. Pick up a sample box to take with you as you walk along the Bow River. The candies are so good you may have to detour back for more.

I was fortunate enough to receive a box of Chocolate Lab's chocolates from a friend who was visiting the area. I have been following their work online for sometime and was so excited to finally get to try their edible works of art! I have had chocolates from around the world, but these little beauties may just be the best I've ever tasted. Flavor combinations are creative and well executed; flavors are really nicely balanced. I was thrilled that they tasted just as beautiful as they looked. They were also very nicely packaged, which made for an even more pleasant experience. I can't wait to try every flavor I can get my hands on! If you're in the area and you love chocolate, this is a MUST visit.

It was suggested that if we liked chocolate then we should visit this shop. It is a bit out of the way but worth it. The owner was very interesting to talk to and was happy to tell us about the different flavours let us taste some chocolates. The chocolates were beautiful to look at and tasted great.

The thin mint and hazelnut crisp were really good. The F=M*A is salty...a bit much for my taste but others may like it. They also have colorful artistically decorated ones which were pretty cool looking.
