Enjoyed the conversation here about chocolate. Very knowledgeable and offered samples before purchase. She really tried to understand my likes/ dislikes before recommending something.

Well, I didn't mean to go into this store as I thought it was your typical melt and mould chocolate. My favourite chocolate in Alberta is Choklat, whom seems to never be open when I am in Calgary (9-5, M-F - silly hours). On the off chance I ventured into the basement where Coppeneur is located just off Stephen Avenue (PERFECT location for the tourists out there) and it is the Bean to Bar Chocolate fan's dream come true carrying bars from Soma Toronto, award-winning Syrene, and of course Choklat. Prices were excellent for these types of things. If you do not know what Bean to Bar is, it is a whole different world of chocolate taking chocolate back to it's roots of 3 ingredients - cocoa butter, cacoa powder, and natural sugar.

I have been a customer of Coppeneur for a few years now and was saddened to see that they were no longer on the 8th Avenue Mall --thinking the recent economic downturn to be the reason. So was delighted to find them on the Lower Level of Fashion Central (corner of 8th Avenue and 1st Street SW - just below DeVille Coffee House). Coppeneur is a chocolate connoiseur's paradise with varietal bars from all over the world with varying degrees of cocoa content. There is also a wonderful selection of truffles, 'traditional' chocolates, and novelty items such as ready-to-grab chocolate fondue in a glass jar. If you or someone you love loves chocolate, then do yourself and them a favour and go to Coppeneur. You won't be disappointed!

I have been buying from Coppeneur for years, and only after this visit did I realize I hadn't reviewed them before. When you go, you'll find the owner super-nice and really helpful. She had a wide variety of chocolates in many price points. If you love truffles, she's had a great selection of very tasty ones. If you like chocolate for eating, drinking or gifting, she has a ton of options, with every flavor combination you can possibly imagine. There's a lot of competition out there, but if you want to support a local business person, buy a really nice quality of chocolates, and would like something a bit different with personal service, you must go here. It's a little tricky to find if you havenot gone before but easy once you figure it out. They are located on Stephen Ave mall (the Core), in the basement of the building across from the Bay. If you know where Davids tea is, or Fluevog Shoes is, (or where Murale and Wolford Hoisery used to be), then you will find this easily.Give them a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
