Spent over four hours here and I could have stayed longer. Learnt so much about Calgary, the first nation people, the railways and how Calgary grew as a city. There are four floors one taken up with artwork. There are so many exhibits to look at and read about. This was my first visit to Calgary and I would recommend... More

Clearly once a quality museum the history exhibits are now somewhat outdated and don't seem to have changed since I visited as a child over a decade ago. The best parts of the museum are the art galleries on the second floor and the warriors exhibit on the fourth. Though the plaques are also somewhat outdated here, the warriors exhibit... More

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum, particularly enjoying the mix of First Nations exhibits, and the recent development of Alberta. We went the day before the Stampede, were given discounted admission, and in the end had to leave before we had seen everything as it was so interesting.

This museum has both breath-taking artworks and historical exhibits as well. I've been here a few times already, and every visit is worth it. The first time I went here, I almost cried because there were many beautiful pieces of art!

Located in heart of downtown Calgary. Impressive collection of Native American art and artifacts. Also good mineral exhibit (including "World's Oldest Rock") and Asian collection. Worth a visit.

A mixture of the local (western Canadian, both historical paintings of the frontier and contemporary works) and international (East Asian spiritual pieces when I visited). It's possible to spend over an hour on just one floor. The general vibe is modern and egalitarian - no preference for "high art", nor for the overly sensational. The setting is traditional: look, don't... More

We went for the art but were taken with the museum floors as well. The Alberta display is very clever with lots of information delivered in innovative ways. The art is really wonderful however, as my companion pointed out and then we noticed it throughout the gallery, the lighting is terrible. The beauty and nuance of many paintings are lost... More

I was very impressed with the native and African art being shown at this musuem. It is conveniently located in downtown Calgary. We found 2 to 3 hours was sufficient to see the majority of the exhibits. If I was visiting Calgary again I would definitely go back for another look.

We spent a good 4 hours here, it is packed with interesting exhibitions and gives a really good insight into First Nation culture and history. Also a good history of Canadian railways which were so important to the development of the country. Highly recommended.
