An early morning jog on the weekend experience is beyond words! It was a good kick-off to start my day with nature. I reached around 6 am and jogged till 8 am all over the nose hill park. There were very few people around (~3). Hence, it was just nature and me. Those rocky mountains were peeping out of clouds to wish me a 'very good morning'
I had even visited on mid-day and was lucky to spot a 'herd of deers'.
Highly recommended for all nature-loving folks out there :)

Check out Nose Hill one of the top destinations in all of Calgary. It's the big park and you can enter from different places. There's one that's got the medicine wheel made of rocks and also the city views. It's a good place to check out to chill and get a little exercise but also you can take the pictures of the downtown Cowtown from the Nose Hill and put them on the instagram and everyone is going to like them. Best of all Nose Hill is free and you can probably bring your own food and drinks and check the vibes

Every big city has gorgeous manicured parks, chockablock with flower beds or dreamy woods. Very few cities famous for being a gateway to the mountains have an 11 square kilometre park that looks like the 'bald prairie.' But Calgary does. Most of the park is open grassland, but there are a couple of surprisingly large areas of woodlands, which happens in actual prairie landscapes as well. On our visit, still VERY early in the spring, I spotted a rare bird, and we came across a small herd of deer. There's more types of wildlife here than you would predict, especially after the snow leaves. We also noticed that there were some improvements to the parking lots on the east side, with some new paving and pit toilets.

Nose Hill Park is my favourite place for a relaxing walk. It is the perfect place to escape the city, within the city. Best views of the city and the mountains are on top of Nose Hill. Perfect place to walk a well trained dog. There is lots of deer, coyotes, and porcupines. The south side of the park is a perfect place to watch the deer just before sunset.

This park is quite beautiful and unique. There are lots of trails that can be taken (alltrails application was very helpful since the trails are not marked, most of the time) and you can probably create a new path everytime you go. Walking in this park makes you feel like you are in the prairire. The view on the city and on the mountains is superbe. This is a must do in Calgary for anyone who like to walk, short or long distance.

Nice open park, fields are well kept. Did not see a bathroom/outhouse available. Seems like lots of street parking available around the edges of the park but think if there are multiple games on simultaneously would create a parking nightmare for residents

Ran 6 km here the other day and absolutely loved it. Moderately challenging as the terrain changes and elevation changes around the entire park. Being from Manitoba I can say I’ve never had a run experience like this before. Beautiful views of the city with a ton of photo opportunities. Beautiful area for off leash dogs aswell but just be aware wildlife can be around so keep that in mind especially with small dogs.

This is a shame for the City of Calgary. You call it a Park?!!! Most of the pathways are not even paved, it is not maintained, no signs (be careful, if you take one of not paved pathways you may have been lost and you need hours to find your way back) , you will not even feel safe in there, ... Just tell me what defines a park? None of them is there. It is like you fence a land, put a sign, and leave it for years ... this is called "Nose Hill Park".

Just wanted to make dog owners aware of two huge coyotes who attacked my dog last night (July 2, 2013 around 7:45pm) on the west side of Nose Hill Park. They must have been following us because they went directly to her and she was only about 20 feet away from me running through the grass. I only heard her yelp once and she managed to get away and thankfully is fine. She is around 55 lbs and these were significantly bigger than her and extremely scruffy looking. Going to be running with a stick and pepper spray from now on.
Nose Hill Park is a great area for walking, running and biking (tons of trails and huge off lease dog area) but we can't forget that there are still wild animals out there!

I have realized that it is sometimes hard to find good information on offleash areas for your dog when you are travelling. As the owner of a very large dog who travels with him occasionally, I find this very important. When you're travelling, you need to make sure your dog gets their energy out quickly.
There are a lot of offleash areas in this park, though not all of the park is off leash. There are clear signs everywhere saying where you can and cannot have your dog off leash. There is also a colour coded map at every entrance. Any paved pathways are definitely leashed areas. *The paved pathways are suitable for wheelchair access.
Nose Hill Park is gorgeous. Scenic views of city centre and also of the Rocky Mountains. It is called Nose Hill, but there are many many hills! You will get a work out going up and down these things. It's much better than the stairmaster!
The park is huge so there are quite a few parking lots.
-If you are looking for a quick and fairly easy walk. I would suggest going to the Shaganappi Trail entrance by the Edgemont Blvd lights. This puts you at the top of Nose Hill and close to off leash areas.
-If you are looking for a great view, I would suggest going to the entrances at 14 Street (closer to John Laurie), John Laurie and 19 Street, or John Laurie and Brisbois.
***Helpful tip here, there is a small rain water lake gem in the middle of the top of this part of the hill. If your dog likes the water, take him/ her here. It is a lovely escape from the city. You are among trees and hills. You don't even know you are in Calgary anymore. This is my favourite part of the whole park. :)***
-If you are looking for a great work out, go to the entrance on 14th Street that at the Berkley Gate lights or 14th Street that is at the 64th Avenue lights.

Sorry, just got back from holidays but yes there is a wonderful spot in the trees. Location is at the feet of Shaganappi trail where it intersects with Edgemont Blvd. There is a parking area where you can park for freel and walk into the park. It will take about 5 min to get to the picnic spot. Once you get through the gate take the path on the right and walk down the little hill. At the intersection where 4 paths meet, take the immediate left paved path and proceed about 350 meters. The picnic spot is on the left in amongst the trees . Enjoy!!
