Sitting Eagle stands 11 feet tall on a polished stone pedestal while he appears to scan the horizon, one arm raised to shield his eyes, outside Encor Place, a 29-story downtown skyscraper on 7th Avenue SW. The setting is perhaps less paradoxical than it seems. A plaque on the statue’s plinth indicates that this First Nations man was a rancher, a businessman, and a patriarch of the Chiniki Band of the Stoney Tribe of Alberta. He wears a leather-tasseled, traditional-looking outfit — as if he were going to dance or drum at a powwow. A most perplexing and unexpected statue!

My office overlooks Sitting Eagle. He is a boon to my productivity and he looks especially majestic in the winter with skiff of snow on his shoulders.

His patience and resolve can be a lesson to us all.

Sitting Eagle Statue is standing on the corner of 7 Ave and 6th street SW. It's a beautiful statue especially the detailed work of the headdress, clothes and the thing in his left hand.

The Chiniki are one of the peoples that make up the Stoney Nakoda Nation reserve just west of Calgary and north of Cochrane. John Hunter was one of their longtime Chiefs and lived to be a ripe age. This is a nice statue that enlivens a part of downtown that doesn't have a lot of art.

Sitting Eagle, John Hunter, was the chief of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation of Alberta. This 11ft statue is a tribute to him.

I really like this statue, I stop to look at it everytime I step by. Yet I wished if it were bigger and in more obvious location as it reflects calgary's heritage.

This statue is a poignant reminder of the early history of many places in Canada and particularly Alberta. It tells a bit about Sitting Eagle aka John Hunter and early Calgary

A large statue commemorating Sitting Eagle the patriarch of the Chiniki Band of the Stoney Tribe, also known by the name of John Hunter. It is a wonderful memorial to the Native people of the Calgary area and seems to be a popular photo opportunity. The statue is well crafted showing a wonderful traditional style outfit which certainly catches the eye amongst the business buildings where the statue can be found.

Big Indian statue. Nothing more, nothing less. A lot of people are taking photos beside it. Easy to find.

This statue is situated outside a major oil companies' office high-rise here in the city of Calgary. I find it a sad moment of the history of Canadian first people.
