- gpjjdev1 contributionInformative and RealisticWe went to the Military Museum today. What an amazing place to spend a few hours on a cold March day while visiting Calgary. - KelvinDunedin, New Zealand574 contributionsNot just for military buffs. This is well worth a look on your visit to Calgary. We went through the main display that housed the naval and Air Force displays but ran out of time to get to one hangar that housed Cold War exhibits. There is plenty to see inside and even the tanks and machines outside were interesting and a variety. The staff were welcoming and informative and overall, a great experience.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten July 3, 2023
- MAH-RWCRedwood City, California2 contributionsIf youāre in Calgary- GO!One could easily spend the whole day; I spent 5 hours and wished i had more time. Great exhibit for the PPCLI, reasonable exhibits for the Calgary Highlanders and the Kings Own Calgary Regt. Strathconaās Horse was good too - interesting to learn about their formative history and the part the railroad baron David Smith played. The bomber nose art exhibit was great- wish there was more.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten July 8, 2023
- MastachiwAllen, Texas319 contributionsA military Museum worth visitingWhat a place. While we have been to a number of military museums, this one strikes the appropriate balance between education and honoring the people who serve. We spent over 3 hours and did not see it all ā there are short movies which really add to the education and help explain many aspects of the different wars that Canadian men and women served. The exhibits really showcased the struggles and Valor of the Canadian military.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten August 12, 2023

Interesting museum overall. We visited on 1st July and the veterans in the cold war exhibit really made this special though. Amazing people with such interesting stories. Thank you, sirs!

Detailed and thoughtful exhibits with just enough facts and human interest content to make the experience both educational and entertaining. Definitely not a glorification of war or militarism.

If you like Military history, this is a must visit attraction. There are a lot of great Army, Airforce and Naval exhibits. The volunteers are passionate and knowledgeable and helpful, which is typical of Calgarians. We got a guided tour of the Cold War exhibits. My dad loved working there. We attended the Nov 11, Remembrance day ceremony. The admissions is donations only. They have a CF16, CF104 plus some propeller Carrier based aircraft. Extremely well done exhibit.

Probably one of the most under-rated attractions of Calgary. This museum is the second largest military museum in Canada and offers a wealth of information about the Canadian military, their missions, and most particularly their involvement in WWI and WWII - at an unbelievably low admission price too!
There are lots of artifacts and items to admire, including real war planes and boats, and very well mounted displays showing, among others, life in the barracks for the soldiers as well as scenes from famous battles of the wars. The Mural of Honour at the very entrance is quite impressive and, thanks to a QR code available on its side, it is possible to learn the history and details about every single individual image that makes up the mural.

We discovered the museum when researching things to do in Calgary and it was a real find. It documents the different military services each with their own gallery. Thereās a good mix of information, artefacts and realistic displays. Thereās so much to see that we couldnāt do it all in our visit of 3 hours.. The volunteers are really knowledgeable and can talk from first hand experience . We were fascinated by the development of the different branches of the services, the part Canada has played in both world wars and the role it has taken through the cold war and as part of NATO. Thereās a large hall showcasing planes and munitions and across the car park a large building focussed on the Cold War. Thereās a good car park and plentiful washrooms as well as a small gift shop with reasonable prices. Itās one of the best Military Museums weāve ever been in and as it was so quiet we felt it had t been discovered yet.

Calgary Military Museums:
It was a great museum. Detailed and interesting displays and artifacts. A good review of Canadaās Armed Forces from land, sea and air. The staff were really helpful and answered all of our inquiries and questions. Many of them were experienced veterans with their added knowledge and wisdom.
There are many things to see and I wish I had more time there. You need about half a day or more to cover all of the exhibits.

Are there picnic tables outside
The Military Museums
Calgary, Canada1 contribution
Sorry for the delay! There are tables with benches on our outdoor patio just beside the Naval Museum of Alberta. The easiest way to get there is by coming through the main entrance, walk down the hall towards the Naval Museum of Alberta, and you'll see it on your right, directly across the snack room.
