Lovely place

Beautiful and informative place to spend a few hours. Great in all weather, and for families and folks of all ages.

Lovely place to walk with kids

If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful.place to go, this is it. Great place to spot wildlife - we saw a deer. Plus it's free!

Nice hidden sanctuary close to downtown
Jul. 2020 • Couples
The deer are so tame, a newborn was within 25 metres of the path ignoring everyone. Path well maintained and marked, although it would be difficult to get lost. Building under major renovation so closed for the year.
It’s just a nice area for a good walk or sit by the river. Bug spray a must!

The Nature Centre is under renovation, so no washrooms at all, but still a great place to visit
May 2020
Not sure what will come first, the lifting of COVID restrictions or the completion of the Nature Centre renovations, but both will need to happen before the building and its washrooms open. There are no temporary washrooms either. We visited recently regardless, and still enjoyed the beautiful trails and saw some wildlife. Visually, the place is stunning, but it does suffer from loud noise from the nearby Deerfoot Trail, so it's not pristine in a total sense. But it's a brilliant place to introduce kids to nature, and for photographers to grab nature shots, and highly recommended.

A great place to relax and take a "nature bath"
Jul. 2019
If you enjoy being surrounded by trees, and bushes, and near some water, with birds singing, and insects buzzing, go there in the spring/summer/fall. Winter is not so nice, and there is not much wildlife around.

Wilderness in the middle of a city
Sep. 2019
We had a relaxing stroll with a group of friends along a river, tree branches left where they fell providing a natural habitat for the birds, lots of interesting information posted along the path.

Nice nature walk
Nov. 2019
Did a walk through the Bird Sanctuary. Keep in mind that it is late fall so not many birds. Did see a couple of deer. Lots of ducks and geese. The pathways can be icy. Recommend you wear those slip on ice shoe grips. The Nature Centre is currently closed due to renovations. Did not see any alternative restrooms.

A peaceful walk to nature
Sep. 2019
A good place to see wildlife and walk around the place. Though not much birds to see as we only sew few and it is also hard to take photos of the few birds we saw. We are also lucky to see a deer and butterfly. A good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of calgary as it is so peaceful and serene.

What a great place to go for a little peace and quiet. Only the sounds of birds and the trees. Lot of trails to follow and place to take a few minutes to sit and relax.

Lovely place for a walk in the park
Sep. 2019
I very much enjoyed my jaunt through the bird sanctuary, plenty of ducks and Canadian geese, folks counting migratory birds and even some people seated sketching.
