Easy to get to by public transportation. Art Gallery is great. Lots to see, the buildings are very interesting, town clock with bells. Food in the area was great.

Churchill Square is the main public gathering spot in downtown Edmonton, and is the location for many of the city's festivals. It is also the headquarters for Edmonton's arts venues -- Arts Museum, Symphony Hall, Performing Arts Theatre. Edmonton's beautiful modern City Hall (which is shaped as a pyramid) and fountains dominate the square. Well worth a visit.

Edmonton took a lovely green patch used by office employees and Edmontonians enjoying the shade from the beautiful old elm trees and replaced it with a concrete patch now used by drug dealers, tatooed juvenile offenders and other loitering ne're do wells. This area is shameful and should be avoided at all costs for those who value their safety. Beware of spit, cigarette butts and drunks lying about. Prime example of Edmonton city council wisdom. A true embarrassment to downtown Edmonton.

I have seen many central squares in the heart of many cities in the world and this square has got to be the ugliest. Edmonton City Hall, facing the square, is a beautiful building, along with the stunning new Art Gallery on the east side of the square. The square itself, however, is nothing more than a glorified paved area that looked like a parking lot. On the days when there is no "event" taking place, it is a cold and uninviting place.

I went there with my six year old grandson and daughter in law. I had remembered it from years ago as a green space - now it is concrete and has a fountain at the far end. Unless there is entertainment there that you wish to see, there is nothing of intrinsic value there.

You are warned on the Edmonton website but nothing really prepares you for how bad it is. Website shows you how it must be normally not as it is. Trouble is it’s not just the Square but the surrounding streets as well. Only positive side was the parking was only C$5 and could have stayed all day, if only. Sorry Edmonton won’t be back any time soon.

It is certainly the heart of Edmonton's downtown, what with a number of events taking place there during the year - from Chinese New Year to Nuit Blanche and the Taste of Edmonton, to name a few. The place itself is fairly bland, with a lot of concrete and just a couple of trees and stairs around it, so it's probably not super interesting on its own without an event ongoing. It does have easy access to City Hall and the wading pool (slash ice rink in the winter) on one side though, and to the Milner branch of the public library on the other, which I think can be considered worth a trip. Churchill LRT Station and various bus stops nearby make the place easy to access by transit.

If you are a tourist, this is not worth going out of your way to see. Except maybe around Christmas to see the lights, but even then it is not worth a special trip. It is a large square that is now paved for special events. If there is something going on, such as Taste of Edmonton or Street Performers, then come on down.

The square is just part of the city, at one end you will find the city hall, on other side you will find the art gallery and the library, the churchill square is nothing special but it is good for a small walk, you can get there by subway and you will find a lot of bus routes since it is in the downtown. there are many events through the year including an ice rink in the winters an lots of festivals and concerts. you can plan to visit the square, the gallery, the mall, the library, the city hall and other stuff on the same day, you will have time for everything.

Hi, I am bringing 3 infants and 1 seven years old kid with me. Please advise me is that place very crowded?
Written July 12, 2017
Depends on the day and time of day. Phone 311 and ask what events are downtown like festivals. If a festival is on, might be crowded. I think morning would be the best time. Avoid lunchtime - people come out of the buildings and walk around, etc.
