Definitely a good place for a day trip and easy hiking/lounging. You'll likely see some bison and other wildlife while there. Astotin lake is a nice spot for photography, especially at sunset.

A great National Park outside of Edmonton. It has lots of Bison roaming freely and beautiful scenery.

So many trails, wild animals everywhere, I love driving through this place and waking trails. Had taken fabulous photos here, I even saw a family of beavers once. At night you can see the stars the way they should be appreciated every night. Best part is close to the city!!!

Best place to camp, hike, take pics, picnic, swim. Mainly see bisons in their natural habitat, and it's only a few mins from Edmonton. There's a boardwalk on the lake. great place to watch birds, fish, beavers, whatever. Well worth the drive and the fee which is minimal, however this year,,,, it's free. Go, enjoy, respect the environment.

Not far from the city, so it makes a great day trip. We went on a particularly warm spring day (in Alberta - that still means snow!) It was not very busy and we enjoyed walking a few of the trails. There were also spots nearby with wood ready for a fire and a picnic. We took the Bison Trail... More

Close enough to Edmonton to make this a good opportunity to get the family out of the city and into nature. I've seen several bison, a moose and an owl when visiting. Walking trails, and campgrounds. A nice playground for children

It is a nice rustic park. You are guaranteed to see animals, but not many people. If you go at night time, you can usually see the northern lights. You can go hiking, there are picnic areas, there's a lake and beach in the summer. In the winter there are great x-country ski trails. Just a good place to get... More

Elk Island is one of the best day trips from Edmonton, it's about at 45 minute drive out of the town but that drive gets you buffalo, a dark sky preserve and a beautiful lake with a walking trail. There are herds of free roaming bison in the park, but please be mindful of the fact these are wild animals... More

Elk Island is a hidden gem near Edmonton, always worth the trip. Sometimes, the bison cooperate and appear along the roads and trails. It's always picturesque, with lakes and wetlands interspersed among the low hills. Trails vary from a few minutes to several hours or more.

My kiddos and I enjoyed walking part of the trail around the Beaver Pond. It was a nice day, though the trails were still snow packed. Our jogging stroller made it just fine though. I can't say that Elk Island Park compares to Waterton Park, but it was still beautiful and was a nice outing to break up this crazy... More
