I've been through this area a few time and learn more each time. One of the biggest things that seems to be a environmental 'ignorance' is how the oil sands are actually benefitting the people and the land by making the land better and more inhabitable than it was after the fact through reclamation. No one could possibly live in the oil sands now as it's actually toxic...but in many years it won't be. Go figure.

If your going to Fort Mac then it is imperative that you stop here. So educational to see how the whole system works of extracting oil from the ground. Really makes you understand how its all done. Definately a must stop and see place. If you have the CF1 card you get in for free.

What a wonderful place to visit, we were so pleased we took the time to stop at the discovery centre. So much information to take in. Friendly and helpful staff, We not only enjoyed the displays but enjoyed the films and presentation on bitumen and the demonstration of what it looks like etc. Recommended for anyone traveling to Fort McMurray.
