About
It’s all here! From its humble beginning in 1978, the Island has undergone numerous expansions to create what is now known as MacDonald Island Park. Home to the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club and Shell Place, the Island has the venues and experience to host large sporting events, concerts, banquets, family programming, camps, and a variety of other community collaborations. MacDonald Island Park, operated by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, a not-for-profit corporation working in collaboration with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, continues to offer new initiatives, programs and services making it an integral part of the Fort McMurray community.

Great for the whole family. Always something going on, great meeting place. Love the library, sports events, pool and work out area. Lots of curling, skating, raquets sports and golf too.
You can catch a hockey, football or baseball game here, go to a trade show and so many awesome concerts.
A real gem for the community.

The modern two-storey library at McDonald Island Park has something for everyone. I like to sit by the large windows on the upper floor to read. It is very relaxing.

During a particularly cold spell in Ft. Mac in December 2017, we were visiting family for Christmas. The families were getting stir crazy indoors, so we decided to go to the pool at Mac Island. Wow: what a facility! The 50 metre pool is separated into two 25 metre ten-lane pool sections, as well as a warmer-water side pool with four lanes. There is a kid’s water playground section, a huge family hot tub area, a huge adult-only hot tub area, adult-only steam room (the hottest I’ve ever experienced = awesome!) several diving boards in the deep end of the large pool, water slides, small water basketball alcove and a lazy river section where you can float. We were all disappointed with the lazy river: you can’t relax on a tube on it because you’re regularly getting sprayed in the face with water. Completely stupid design! They ruined a great idea with the water aimed at you. No one was on the lazy river and the pool had a lot of people there... should have been our first clue. The rest of the huge facility has great-looking stuff, although we didn’t directly visit them: restaurant/bars, permanent badminton courts, weight room, ice rinks, running track, climbing wall, indoor baseball diamond, soccer/lacrosse field, indoor football field, banquet facilities, and more that I’m probably missing. This is a much needed service for the residents of Ft. Mac to fight seasonal affective disorder and to stay in shape.

Long hairs on walls of showers, bandaids on floor, smells like urine in showers. Gross. Also Muslims allowed to wear full clothing( long sleeves. Long pants head covered) but I am expected to wear a bathing suit while they glare from across the hot tub.. My last visit to the pool was super uncomfortable, as a fully clothed and scarved woman, glared from behind her I phone "poolside" while her male family members frolicked. It's 🇨🇦 Canada! I'm allowed to show skin, I am allowed to wear a bathing suit in a public pool. I have never gone back and its been a few months. Maybe I will feel better if I just wear my jeans and hoodie swimming next time so as not to insult my fellow "Canadians".

It all happened on Saturday, October 21st in the afternoon around 3:25pm. At this time, the Mosaic Tradeshow was happening so my friends and I decided to try out the Frosty Fox Café. Since this event was well attended, I figured the Café would have enough staff working to accommodate this busy time. I was completely wrong. As a group of professionals, we were completely disgusted by our first time eating experience at this cafe. As a professional I am appalled. Totally disappointed. Where do I even start??? From when I first walked in the door I couldn't believe my eyes. The amount of dirty tables, both with and without customers, along with the tables waiting for their bills, and with only 1 waitress serving and 1 waitress cleaning tables. This was completely despicable. As a manager, I was shocked that he/she wouldn't have enough waitstaff working to ensure they were making a good "first" impression, especially having just opened. As a professional who is successful in customer service, it was disappointing for me to see and experience this kind of customer service and management. Our waitress had no time to come back to check on our group to see if our meals were satisfactory and our glasses were emptied for some time. When our waitress did return, we were ready to leave and wanted our bills. It greatly saddens me to see how these waitresses had to slave away, providing terrible customer service, and with no choice but to continue to serve. From this experience, I won’t say I will never be back, but I certainly won’t be back for a long time. If you decide to try this café, I hope your experience will be better than mine. Cheers!

Whatever your expectations are lower them.
I realize it is the smaller version of the Fox's Den.
But, you still expect a base line attempt or minimal standards to kept.
To be specific I ordered the Black Bean Burger with fries.
The fries were under cooked, soggy and under seasoned.
The onions on the burger were candied with sugar not carmelized.
So sweet they were dessert like, just what I wanted on a commercially made burger, because it obviously was not made in house.
Oh, and also don't add condiments that are not stated in the menu.
The nachos my girlfriend order were equally poor. Barely warm with weird chunks of meat on them. But surprisingly burnt, despite being cold.
I know this isn't an A-list restaurant and you haven't staffed it with your best. But don't live down to people's already low expectations.

State of the art facility, with what has to be the nicest municipal golf course. Incredible football and baseball stadium.

We always have a great time! Kids love the water slides and we enjoy touring the lazy river... Finish the visit off with some time in the whirl pool if it's not to crowded.

The swimming pools are great, its clean and a well kept place overall. Change rooms are clean.
Its great to have many options under one roof like the library as well.
The frozen yoghurt place is ideal after swimming!

Are there lockers here, so I can stash my luggage as I kill time for my flight? It looks like a good place to do some indoor walking?
Written October 14, 2019
Yes. There’s some by the walking track, but I believe they’re all half sized.
Get access to the change room for the full lockers.

Odd question, but from Timberlae area what bus do I take to get to the pool at Mac Island
Written September 25, 2018
You have to take route 15 to the Main Street terminal and then get on route 99 to Mac Island. I haven’t taken the bus in years but if you call dispatch at 780-743-7931 they can help you too!
