- GAlbers2 contributionsAmazing experienceWe went in June 2019 and booked a rather expensive adventure ticket to go on the Athabasca Glacier, the exhibit and on a tour to the skywalk. Every penny worth it! It's a once in a lifetime experience, to actually be on a Glacier, to see the views, also the views and animal sightings on the skywalk. Also included is a free tour to the making of the skywalk and our tour guide Hannah from the USA explained everything to us, from animals to flora. I recommend it any time.Hi Orfanidou, I appreciate you taking the time to leave a review! I am happy to hear you enjoyed your time, and I will make sure to pass on your notes to Hannah as well! We do hope to see you again soon! - PrratyushLethbridge, Canada1 contributionColumbia Ice field glacier tour & SkywalkNice place! Amazing views! Make sure to purchase tickets in advance or else have to wait 1-2 hours before you can get on the tour. Overall good experience. Definitely worth the visit if it’s your first time!Hello Prratyush, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. It so great to hear that you found the Skywalk nice and worth the visit. Purchasing tickets in advance is great advice as our tours tend to fill up quickly, especially during our peak season. If you are looking to purchase tickets the day of we recommend coming during our shoulder season (spring and autumn) when tours are not as busy. Enjoy the rest of your summer and we hope to see you again soon at the Columbia icefield. - Cindy L23 contributionsUnique View over Columbia IcefieldsThis was our first experience with the Skywalk. It was a simple self guided tour with an option to download an audio tour for headphones. It's unique see through material afforded views below you as you walked along the bridge. Expect very long lines at the Columbia Icefields Center even though you may have pre-booked a specific day/time online. The time stamp does not afford you to skip the line. We had to wait a while for the air conditioned buses to pick us up at Center but little wait on return to center. Our reservation was good over several days with one visit allowed. Allow plenty of time to park if you drive in. There is also quite a lot of steps to enter the Columbia Icefields Center. I never saw an elevator for the outside entrance. You can not park at the Skywalk.Hello there, Thank you so much for the rating and lovely detailed review, we truly appreciate it! We hope you enjoyed your time here at the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk. The Skywalk does not offer anything over the lookout that was already there. We disagreed with the idea of attracting more visitors to the park from the day the project was announced.

Expensive, but don’t think it’s worth it.
It is something, in my opinion, you would want to experience but not more than once. It is pricey.

The skywalk is an extension of the Columbia Icefield Tour and it is not to be missed. The bridge extension offers an opportunity to really experience the valley below in unique way. Standing very quietly you are able to hear the 6-7 different waterfalls below. You can easily be transported back in time imagining the community that used to inhabit this area. Although the bridge is really fun, the iron sculptures and information signs leading up to bridge. Really neat for the whole family.

Given that glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate I was conflicted about taking the tour given the number of visitors, and vehicles on the glacier. In the end, I think it was an educational experience that I’m glad I got to share with my family.

We had booked this tour as part of our Rockies Road Trip. It didnt disappoint from the large Ice Explorer wagons, to walking on the glacier and walking on the glass . Cant believe some people just rocked up and wanted to get on tours there and then. Do a wee bit of planning and prebook

Excellent information provided on the tour about the area, wildlife and glaciers. No portable washrooms available which was disappointing and would have been good to know before we left the Glacier tour.

You only need a short time here as there is not much to do. Still, it’s a unique experience and worth the trip, especially as you don’t need to worry about parking and the shuttles are very efficient.

We are booked at 1515 for the ice field. We also have tickets for the skywalk- not sure whether to do it before or after the glacier. If we do it before, what time would we need to arrive? Thanks

We are driving the Icefields Parkway on Sunday, June 11 from Banff to Jasper. We want to make some stops along the way, so we don't know exactly when we will reach the Columbia Icefield . Is there a reservation with a flexible time? if noy, what time do you recommend. Thanks!
Columbia Icefield
Banff, Canada1 contribution
Hi Jon,
We recommend scheduling a specific time for your tour to ensure that you can reserve seats at a preferable time (we also encourage you to arrive 30 mins prior to departure time). If you do not book a specific time it is possible you would see some wait time before we can get you on a tour. That being said, we can schedule your tour at our ticket desk when you arrive. In terms of what time we recommend, the skywalk is beautiful all day long, however, it tends to be busiest mid-day.
I hope this helps! We look forward to seeing you.

Hi, has anything changed regarding pet policies since the last question? Are there any doggie daycare facilities available while owners go on the Skywalk? Thanks

Can the general public go to the skywalk without having to buy tickets? If your not going on the Icefield tour, can you just park and walk to still use it?

Is this a worthwhile excursion whilst in Jasper? Or would anybody recommend another/better way of seeing the glaciers?

If you go to the Columbia Icefields Discovery Center, they have large snow coaches that will take you directly out onto the Athabasca Glacier; the ticket also includes the Columbia Skywalk which is a short distance away. Once you buy your ticket, it has an assigned time on it. You take a bus to the snow coach, take the snow coach out onto the glacier where you can walk around and take photographs for about half an hour, then you get back on the bus and go to the Skywalk where you can stay as long as you'd like and then board one of the busses back. The Skywalk just has a nice view, doesn't really involve the Athabasca glacier. It's about ten minutes away. The Discovery Center is on the Icefields Parkway so you pass it going from Banff to Jasper. The tours are seasonal.

How can I get to the skywalk from my hotel in Jasper?
Columbia Icefield
Banff, Canada1 contribution
Hello,
The Skywalk is located on the Icefelds Parkway (Hwy 93). There is no parking at the Skywalk. All tours go out from the Discovery Center, which s located 6km up the road.
Our last day of operations for the 2019 season is on Sunday, October 20th.
During the season, guests can drive themselves from Jasper to the Discovery Center to catch a shuttle to the Skywalk or book a sightseeing tour that will pick you up from Jasper.
I can see on the website that the Skywalk is open until October 20 but no dates after that. Is it closed from October 20 til the end of the year?
volcanogirl

Yes, the Skywalk closes for the season after that date.

What direction does the Jasper Skywalk face? Is it good to go to see a sunset? Thank you!
Hi there! The Skywalk faces south west and we can see the sun setting over the mountains some times. However, we are not always open during sunset as during this time of the year our hours are 10:15AM - 6:00PM. If you are in the area and unable to view the sunset from the Skywalk, I highly recommend the Tangle Falls hike to view the sunset.

Visiting next week with my 88-year-old father. Is there a long walk from the parking to the Skywalk?
Hello.
The Parking for the Skywalk is actually 6km south of the attraction at the Discovery Centre. From there, we take you on a shuttle bus to the attraction which has a boardwalk which is 800m in length. We do however offer wheelchairs (subject to availability) to our guests free of charge.
Hope this helps!
Matt
