I had purchased a combo pass for the Glacier tour + Skywalk. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we couldn't make it to the reception at the scheduled time (3:30 PM). While we requested the staff to accommodate us on the upcoming trip at 5 PM, they denied us entry and claimed that the tour was full. The tour had a few vacant spots, but others were prioritized over us.
They told only way we could take the Glacier tour was to come back to the icefields on some other day. We were on the way to Banff. Travel 200kms just coz staff couldn't accommodate us? sounds, crazy right?
Suggested improvement:
When people who registered for a particular timeslot don't turn up, give them a call as they are most likely to reach in few minutes and can be accommodated in the next trip to Glacier.
It was peak of the season, having extra busses to trip is Ideal.
In case the staff is not able to accommodate both then charge us for only what you offer. That is SkyWalk in this case. The Glacier trip cost should have been refunded. As it was not the customer who didn't turn up. It was the company not having enough logistics to accommodate.

Hello there,
Thank you so much for your very detailed review on your experience at the Columbia Icefield.
We welcome thousands of guests here each day, many who may miss their tour due to a variety of reasons. We do not have the capacity to call each guest when they do not show up for their scheduled time. We also have no cell service within 150km's of the icefield parkway to determine an arrival time.
During these busy months in the summer we are usually at capacity for tours and may or may not have the space to bump a group directly on the tour time. Therefore we accommodate as best as we can to get the guests on a tour that day or in upcoming days. There are of course exceptions that can be made if there is a medical emergency or something of the sort to warrant a refund.
We are so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience at the Columbia Icefield but we truly hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Canadian Rockies.
Sincerely,
Louise d'Entremont

It’s worth the stop but if you have toddlers, waiting in the heat for the shuttle was a lot for them. Maybe more of a fall/autumn adventure with little children. The heat and the cramped bus was a lot. Great view but maybe I expected too much from all the hype over the years. The drive from Lake Louise to Jasper was 100% worth it and it’s a good way to break up the trip if you are passing through. Glad we didn’t drive the whole way there just for this from Calgary.

Athabasca Glacier is mesmerizing and me stepping on it for the very first time, made me feel alive. I tired to connect with this beauty but we were allowed only 20 mins time on glacier - most rushed experience for the amount we paid for this visit. Moreover staff did not make it any pleasant- most of them were rude and never greeting anyone, even if you try to be nice, they give you look, it’s like they are mad at you for being there and don’t realize that people paid for this experience, it’s not charity service. I also observed that some people can just park their cars at random parking spot and step on part of glacier for free, they got the spend more time on that part of glacier than ones who paid. Shuttle is very unique and we enjoyed the ride. Skywalk viewpoint is great!!

An incredible experience visiting the Glacier, and it was truly unforgettable thanks to the outstanding service from the team. Jackson, who drove the ice truck, was not only skilled but also very knowledgeable, making the glacier tour both safe and fascinating. Sam, our bus driver, provided a smooth and comfortable ride while sharing insightful information about the area. Their professionalism and enthusiasm greatly enhanced the trip. Highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to explore the stunning Athabasca Glacier!

The trip was great in all respects. The only thing that was disappointing was that when booking the trip we were told to expect to be on the glacier for about an hour. We got off the vehicle at the glacier at 10:38 am and were told to be back by 11:00am. Twenty Two minutes are simply not enough for a family of 4 to enjoy the views and take pictures. We felt rushed because there were close to 200 people in that little area (4 buses were on top of the glacier when we arrived and 5 when we left) at that time. The 22 minutes included disembarking and getting back on the vehicle. It kind of felt that we are spending so much for so little of an experience. There is no time limit at the skywalk. It was great.

We came into this with really low expectations. Most of the pictures only showed the end of the skywalk, so we thought we were paying $120 for 2 minutes and done.
The actual experience exceeded our expectations. With the glass floor, beautiful view, and information signs scattered along the cliffside, it felt much longer and more fulfilling.
The skywalk shakes, though. Not for people afraid of heights.

First of all, the drive out to this area is breathtaking. The Skywalk attraction is a uniquely beautiful opportunity to get out and experience the beauty of this area from an extraordinary point of view. It is pricey and crowded during the height of the tourist season, but it is worth it to see for yourself.

The skywalk is an impressive structure that overlooks the athabasca glacier but it was so crowded, sun exposed and touristy. Felt like herding cats through one direction for a view that you could get parking on the roadside. They also have large buses ferrying you to the site and you have to wait in line to get there and back to the icefield parking lot. I would skip it next time because its not worth the time and wading through the crowds.

Place was great but what made it remarkable was our guide, Tai. She was knowledgeable regarding wildlife, geologic history and many other things related to the skywalk. My wife is afraid of height, Tai coached her to where we wife enjoyed looking down thru the glass. As a matter of fact we stayed on the glass longer than the majority of people. My hats off to Taifor making the skywalk memorable.

Very beautiful the whole tour, a regular bus takes you to the point where there is another big-wheeled bus that can get into the ice. There, you get off the bus and take a walk on the glacier. About 30m later vc follows to the skywalk where vc has a stunning view. In the mountains there was no more snow or ice yet it was very worth it.

We are booked at 1515 for the ice field. We also have tickets for the skywalk- not sure whether to do it before or after the glacier. If we do it before, what time would we need to arrive? Thanks
Written August 17, 2022
I think half an hour at the Skywalk is more than enough time there.

We are driving the Icefields Parkway on Sunday, June 11 from Banff to Jasper. We want to make some stops along the way, so we don't know exactly when we will reach the Columbia Icefield . Is there a reservation with a flexible time? if noy, what time do you recommend. Thanks!
Written May 15, 2022
Hi Jon,
We recommend scheduling a specific time for your tour to ensure that you can reserve seats at a preferable time (we also encourage you to arrive 30 mins prior to departure time). If you do not book a specific time it is possible you would see some wait time before we can get you on a tour. That being said, we can schedule your tour at our ticket desk when you arrive. In terms of what time we recommend, the skywalk is beautiful all day long, however, it tends to be busiest mid-day.
I hope this helps! We look forward to seeing you.

Hi, has anything changed regarding pet policies since the last question? Are there any doggie daycare facilities available while owners go on the Skywalk? Thanks
Written June 11, 2021
Can the general public go to the skywalk without having to buy tickets? If your not going on the Icefield tour, can you just park and walk to still use it?
Written June 15, 2020
Is this a worthwhile excursion whilst in Jasper? Or would anybody recommend another/better way of seeing the glaciers?
Written November 4, 2019
If you go to the Columbia Icefields Discovery Center, they have large snow coaches that will take you directly out onto the Athabasca Glacier; the ticket also includes the Columbia Skywalk which is a short distance away. Once you buy your ticket, it has an assigned time on it. You take a bus to the snow coach, take the snow coach out onto the glacier where you can walk around and take photographs for about half an hour, then you get back on the bus and go to the Skywalk where you can stay as long as you'd like and then board one of the busses back. The Skywalk just has a nice view, doesn't really involve the Athabasca glacier. It's about ten minutes away. The Discovery Center is on the Icefields Parkway so you pass it going from Banff to Jasper. The tours are seasonal.

How can I get to the skywalk from my hotel in Jasper?
Written October 15, 2019
Hello,
The Skywalk is located on the Icefelds Parkway (Hwy 93). There is no parking at the Skywalk. All tours go out from the Discovery Center, which s located 6km up the road.
Our last day of operations for the 2019 season is on Sunday, October 20th.
During the season, guests can drive themselves from Jasper to the Discovery Center to catch a shuttle to the Skywalk or book a sightseeing tour that will pick you up from Jasper.
Written October 17, 2019
I can see on the website that the Skywalk is open until October 20 but no dates after that. Is it closed from October 20 til the end of the year?
Written October 11, 2019
Yes, the Skywalk closes for the season after that date.
Written October 11, 2019
What direction does the Jasper Skywalk face? Is it good to go to see a sunset? Thank you!
Written September 2, 2019
Hi there! The Skywalk faces south west and we can see the sun setting over the mountains some times. However, we are not always open during sunset as during this time of the year our hours are 10:15AM - 6:00PM. If you are in the area and unable to view the sunset from the Skywalk, I highly recommend the Tangle Falls hike to view the sunset.

Visiting next week with my 88-year-old father. Is there a long walk from the parking to the Skywalk?
Written June 5, 2019
Hello.
The Parking for the Skywalk is actually 6km south of the attraction at the Discovery Centre. From there, we take you on a shuttle bus to the attraction which has a boardwalk which is 800m in length. We do however offer wheelchairs (subject to availability) to our guests free of charge.
Hope this helps!
