We did this cruise yesterday, having bought it as part of a package deal at the Banff Gondola (it also included a pass to the Columbia Icefield Skywalk, also a worthwhile stop).

In short, the trip was excellent! Our captain was Becca and our tour guide was Sam. Both were lovely. Sam was exceedingly knowledgeable about the area and told us interesting facts throughout the journey. The views from the other end of the lake are breathtaking - my 21-year-old daughter claims they were “better than Lake Louise”.

Thank you for a wonderful experience and I will definitely be recommending it to friends in the future!

Dear TGiffin, Thank you so much for taking time to write us a review! I am glad to hear you were able to visit us and our other attractions as part of our package deal. It is delightful to hear how lovely you found Becca and Sam, and how much you enjoyed the interesting facts he told throughout the cruise. I also have to agree that Maligne Lake is better than Lake Louise, but I am be a little biased. Thank you again for your comments. Brittany Andrews Tour Boat Manager Maligne Lake Cruise

This was my husband's first time on the tour but I've been on this tour a couple times before when I was young (15-25 years ago). Despite my previous trips, both of us learned a few things during the tour and we both really enjoyed the views and visit to Spirit Island. Our captain and guide, Crystal and Nat, were great and worked really well as a team. Also, when a couple other guests on the back deck weren't listening to instructions, Nat handled them very professionally!

I do wish we had gone for the longer tour that allowed for a half hour on Spirit Island. However, it was tough to justify the extra $30/person for an extra 15 minutes. If you're just going for the tour and to get a couple quick photos of Spirit Island, 15 minutes will be ample, otherwise go for the longer trip.

Fantastic tour and well worth the money to see Maligne Lake and hear from the tour guides some of the history, geology, indigenous culture, and local knowledge of this stunning part of Canada. Our guide, Jared was knowledgable and witty and we really appreciated his indigenous context - always so much to learn in this area! Boat captain Abigail was friendly, safe, and efficient. Vaccination status was checked prior to ticketing and mask were mandatory on board (very happy about that), and boat safety was taken seriously.
I have been to Maligne Lake about a half dozen times and this was my first time on the boat tour - well worth it. Great photo ops and a stop at Spirit Island make for a fabulous afternoon.

I was very impressed with how this company has navigated covid. I was apprehensive about getting into an enclosed space with strangers but these guys have very stringent practices, including having empty rows between passengers and other diligent protocols. Captain Sarah (“princess sarah”) and our tour guide, Flo (“flo-ridey”) made the experience upbeat and fun, despite all the covid measures. This remains a fun thing to do in the Jasper area.

Dear Littlebear0023, Thank you so much for your comments. "Flo-ridey" and "princess Sarah" will be delighted to hear how much they made the experience for you. I enjoy the nicknames. It's true, our boats are enclosed, so masks are required and then we are also physically distancing all passengers. So I am glad that we were able to put your concerns at ease, and you had a safe comfortable ride. Thank you again for your comments, we hope to see you out here again soon! The cruise was excellent, narration by Sam was very informative. The views were spectacular and the short stop at Spirit Island afforded some great photo op's.
the BIG negative was to cut costs they cancelled bookings that weren't 100% full. As a result (days before the Alberta Covid lockdown this month (September) the cramming every seat on the boat. Noting that the seats were in groups of 3, couples had a stranger sitting immediately beside them and no social distancing was possible. In my view very irresponsible of management, knowing the increasing numbers of Covid cases in Alberta.

The lake was breathtaking, spectacular views, amazing guides: Captains Greg, Jack and Jack's Sparrow. The trip was very informative. I would recommend online booking as the boats do get filled but there's ticket booth at the site too, just not sure if you'd get in at the time you want. Pretty chilly so wear warm clothes.

We were quite unhappy with the COVID-19 safety protocols in place. I understand the premier of Alberta has lifted restrictions, but companies can still choose to implement certain protocols, especially in busy, touristy areas. Masks were not mandatory, there was no social distancing, and very little outdoor space on the boat, so we were in an enclosed space with little air flow for the majority of the trip. We were hoping based on the Safety webpage on the Maligne Lake website that promises “crowd-free comfort," "health and temperature checks," and “strongly recommends” mask wearing, that things would be different.

If they don't want to ask guests to wear masks, then they should really be operating at partial capacity to allow for social distancing. We ended up feeling quite uncomfortable for most of the trip, due to the maskless people around us and how closely we were all packed in. The tour guide wasn't even wearing a mask, and at the beginning of the trip she did state that masks were encouraged, but then immediately said "but it's still up to you," so it did very little to actually encourage those not wearing a mask to put a mask on. Very disappointed in this, especially as we're still very much in a pandemic.

My wife and I went on the 2 hour premium boat tour of Maligne Lake. The premium tour travels further down the lake and allows for extended time at Spirit Island. Captain Emily and guide Sam did a great job. The tour was informative; the sights were nothing short of exhilarating. The late-September weather was cool, but comfortable.

The "cruise" is a nice boat-trip absolutely not worth the very expensive ticket fee.
You can find similar places all over BC and Alberta.
However what completely spoiled the experience was the highly unprofessional behaviour of staff.
We had pre-booked a slot on the 14:45 sailing a week in advance and where at the pier at 14:00.
The 14:15 sailing was sent away without us and at 14:30 we where informed the 14:45 sailing had been cancellled.
No apologies, alternative arrangements, or refund options were offered.Instead a very snotty employee informed us,rhat we had no rights at all.
No interest in customer service and satisfaction - what a shame for a company in the tourism industry.

Hi Anastasia1805, I've messaged you privately but I would also like to say here that we are so sorry that you had such a poor experience on your visit to the lake; we want our guests to come away being wowed by the whole cruising experience and I apologize that we fell well below expectations. Thank you so much for your review - we've spoken with our ticket agents about your experience and we will use your comments to improve our communication and our hospitality training. The boat tours are an absolutely must-see for an in-depth exploration of the history of the lake, as well as many naturally occuring landmarks! Our boat captain, Jordan, and our tour guide, Ruby, were beyond excellent. Ruby had such a great energy about them and answered every single person's questions about the lake! Jordan had a great vibe as well and made sure we showed the other boat tours who was boss! Ruby made a conscious effort to educate us on the indigenous people history of the island, as well as the efforts taken by the park to honor and respect their wishes.

I would highly recommend going earlier in the morning, the air is pristine and the crowds are not too bad.
