River and hill

We did not go in. It is bordered by the river and a small hill. A real small fort. You can navigate in quarter of an hour.

Interesting bit of History
Aug. 2019
I had first visited the Fort Whoop-Up site in 2003, but was not very impressed. Since my wife had not yet seen it, we decided on a return visit. I must say that the presentation at the old fort site is much improved. The exhibits weave the complex story of the fort, the Native peoples they traded with, and the early development of what became Lethbridge. The staff were very friendly and the audio presentations (taken from archival entries of visitors to the fort) were excellent. The wagon ride through Indian Battle Park was also enlightening, dealing with the wider range of history and culture in the Lethbridge area. Definitely a worthwhile place to visit.

A shell of what it used to be
Aug. 2019
Family came down before it was taken over by the Gait Museum, there's no where near as much as there was before the takeover. It's missing a lot of the old skins, guns, and other items before the takeover. Not the Gait museum's fault, blame the city of Lethbridge back in 2016 when there was an issue between the city and the Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Society.

Fort Whoop-up Lethbridge

We visited the Fort and were greeted by a friendly staff. The guide, Harrison was exceptionally informative as he described the early years of the Fort. Our questions were answered clearly and we learned so much of the early days of Western Canada. The setting is replicated as close to the original Fort and easy to maneuver. It was an enjoyable few hours that concluded with a wagon ride.

Visited today on the 26th August 2018 and it was a really nice little place to visit. Fair bit to see and learn about how it once was. The staff were friendly and everything was well done.

Step back into the 1870’s

This replica of a frontier trading post, for furs in return for firearms, blankets and illegal ‘whiskey’ is operated by the Galt Museum (admission discount voucher included) and the attention to detail is excellent. The small site located down in the coulee of Indian Battle Park is packed with historic information delivered by a guide and/or brochure, a film, an exhibit gallery, historic photograhs, audio recordings, furnished rooms, a live blacksmith demonstration and a free wagon ride, not forgetting the miniature donkey. By 1874 the Mounties were knocking at the pallisade door.

A walk in the park.

Lovely multiple picnic areas with one of the tallest railway trellises I've seen sending long freight trains overhead. Great bike paths wind throughout along the river.
