It was nice to see this garden. It was peaceful, nicely laid out and compact. It had a great view of Henderson Lake. There was quite a bit of construction around the gardens - so a bit confusing to navigate entering the area. Since it is in the Japanese style - please be aware that the emphasis will be on textures, shapes, and sounds of the water rather than having a constant display of flowers/colours. Unless you are going for a particular event, such as the tea ceremony, you will need less than an hour to tour the gardens

Whenever we are in Lethbridge we like to stop into these gardens and just walk along the pathways, listening to the waterfalls and appreciating the well-manicured shrubs and trees, along with a stop into the small gift shop.

I have seen many Japanese gardens and many in Japan. This one is very nice and truly authentic. If you have time it is well worth it. You will see true Japanese carpentry

First time visit to the city and gardens. Nicely laid out. Hope to try and see it in the fall as the colours of the foliage comes out or in spring when the flowers are blooming.

We visited on a Friday night and the garden was nice and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. We spent about an hour here as our sons enjoyed exploring.

For $11, I was expecting more than a five min walk through a park. If you are looking for a bench to sit and listen to the creek, then this would be great for you. The grounds were nice but I just didn't realize that it was just going to be peonies and evergreens that are trimmed to look like bonsai with a creek running through. There are five gardens I believe but the prairie garden was just a lawn so you have to know what you are looking for. If you are just looking for a place in the city for quiet and solitude then it is for you. If you know a bit about plants and want to see the plants of japan, it would probably be best to go elsewhere.

Hi there, We're sorry to hear your visit didn't meet your expectations. Much of the garden's information on the design philosophies and why it is the way it is can be found in the self-guided brochure we give to guests. Or, you can learn more through a guided tour that will provide more of a history of Nikka Yuko and look into the horticultural and cultural aspects of the garden. Many of the species of plants found in Japan would not survive our harsh southern Alberta climate, so the original designers have used those native to our environment. As such, Nikka Yuko is known as a Canadian garden done in a Japanese style and reflects the friendship of the two countries together. We also offer daily programming and events that can be found on our website and allow guests to experience Japanese culture through a variety of activities from tea ceremonies, crafts, dance performances, taiko drumming, and more. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have further concerns about your visit, we are always looking to improve our visitor experience.

Those were the first words that came to mind when writing my review of the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden in Lethbridge. It is a small, quaint yet lovely property to walk around and find some semblance of peace during your busy life.

The grounds are very well kept. Not knowing much about the property, I thought there would be more flowers, but the beauty was still stunning. Definitely go hear to wind down, and don’t expect to be entertained. Some people visit to dress up, take tons of selfies, ring that bell repeatedly and be talkative, but I really found the tranquility of the gardens to stand out – the sound of water brook and the rocks, the beauty that surrounds. Visitors can visit the guesthouse as well to check out the pristine sand garden as well as view classic Japanese architecture.

The value proposition here will depend on your span of attention, willingness to relax, and so forth. Going first thing in the morning, there is a reduced rate of a few dollars as well as you receive a complimentary beverage (coffee, tea, water). It is a relatively small yet beautifully upkept property. You wont do much really except walk around (unless you buy one of their picnic packages or partake in their activities or tours) or you can dress up in classic Japanese attire for a fee. But sometimes it is a good thing to take it easy, maybe that’s the joy you find.

Please indicate if you found this review to be helpful as it will help me focus my efforts in the future!

I visited this beautiful zen space this morning. It is sooo quiet and beautiful and has some great history to know behind its inception. I recommend it to anyone who ants to chill and be out in nature.

This was our second visit here. Nothing appeared to have changed in 20 years which was a disappointment. It is beautiful, well maintained grounds in a peaceful setting.
However if you're expecting flowering gardens this is not what is here. There was one flower bed but we arrived after the blooms were done.

Hi Jim, We're sorry to hear you were disappointed in your visit. Our gardeners work hard to maintain the grounds and keep it as close to the original design plan as possible. So while the garden itself has not changed, we have introduced many new programs and events that happen daily for our guests to experience different aspects of Japanese culture through tea ceremonies, dancing, crafts, and more. You are correct in that there are very little flower blooms inside the garden as we are not a botanical garden and flowers are not typically seen in a Japanese garden. We hope you were able to learn about the garden through our self-guided or guided tours that are available to all guests who visit.

This is beautiful and peaceful Japanese garden . Amazing landscaping and well preserved . Very peaceful . We visited during noon but , it will be better if the visit was early morning so you can enjoy more peace. You can sit and enjoy the peace and environment . Listen to the sound the flowing water.

It is not very large can cover within a maximum of 40 mts. I truly wish if it could be expanded.
